Parasound C2 missing rear channel with analog 5.1 input

    Hi folks,

Has anyone heard of a problem with Parasound Halo C2's not producing sound from the right surround channel? This only happens when I try and listen to SACD's via the 6 channel analog inputs. All digital inputs work fine. There is some low level sound from the right surround but it is extremely low compared to the left surround channel - and all the other channels for that matter.

Note that in order to play SACD's with the six channel input, I have to select EXT 7.1 ANALOG. It almost seems as though the rear channel is wired wrong internally and i'm getting "mixed" sound from one of the back channels instead of the surround channel.

It is possible that the DVP-CX777ES is not putting out sound (or just minimal) to this analog rear channel as well.

Not sure on how to proceed with figuring this one out.

    Suggestions? Thanks in advance,

The first thing I'd do is check the cables. Try swapping one of the front channel cables to the channel where you are noticing the problem. Then try an eliminate whether it's the player or the processor by swapping which channel is plugged into where (instead of plugging the right front into right front, try plugging it into left front, etc) You may also try doing it with only one channel plugged in at a time, and simply jump from channel to channel to see if you get the same sound from each.

      Hey Brian,
Thanks for the simple reminder to start from the beginning. Checking the cables again was the right call. There is not a problem with either the DVP or the C2. This is simpy operator error. The reason the right surround was so low level was because I had swapped the right surround input with the subwoofer input. That's what happens when you get home late after a couple of beers and decide that you are so stoked on your new Blue Jeans six channel cable set that you have to set it up right then to listen to that Joe Satriani SACD. Well, I guess I just used up my Mulligan on my first AV forum post. )

hehe, been there, done that. Don't worry, offsetting mulligans allow you to start over in my book.

Parasound Halo A51 5th Channel Problem.
            by mitch57
Well it looks like my Halo A51 Amp's 5th channel is on it's way out. I started noticing the the 5th channel, which is the surround right channel, didn't seem to have much of a signal. I first noticed it while listening to DVD-A and multi channel SACDs. It just didn't seem like I was hearing much...

Recycling Parasound C2 Controller for 2 Channel Audio
            by MichiganMike
The price of used C2 controllers in good condition is about 30% of the MSRP when new. These are no longer state of the art for home theater and are spurned by many potential HT buyers because of the lack of HDMI video inputs. However, the audio quality through both digital and analog inputs is competitive...

From a news release I just saw of the first receiver, (Onkyo) with the new Dolby Pro Logic IIz technology that extracts to 9.1 channels. I chased down this technology report on the Dolby website. Very interesting.
I'm surprised that I hadn't heard of this before! My thoughts in another post...

Adcom in Channel Protection Mode. Help??
            by Rolyasm
My father was using an Adcom GFA 7000. He wanted to connect a sixth speaker to the 5 channel amp and thought he would try some crafty wiring. He took the speaker cable from the sixth speaker and split it four ways, connecting a pair to both left surround and right surround channels (thinking he would...

C2 7.1 Ch analog input subwoofer problem
            by Old Timer
I recently purchased a multiformat DVD palyer and have experienced problems with the analog subwoofer input on my C2. All of the channels work fine with the exception of the subwoofer. There is no subwoofer output when I use the 7.1 Channel input. The subwoofer works fine when using a digital input...
