800 series phase plug on 805S

    Hi

My 2 year old son recently squashed the dust cover on the midrange driver on one of my B&W 805S speakers - nightmare...

Anyway, they are difficult to repair and not replaceable unless you replace the entire midrange unit, which is quite expensive. However, an eBay seller suggested that you can make the phase plug from the 805D series compatible with the 805S - anyone heard of this or know if it's doable?

If the HTM4S I have is anything to go by, it won't work as the plug is part of the driver rather than a removable plug (like on the nautilus and diamonds)

      Hi Tom

Yes, they appear to be the same.

The eBay seller claims it can be done and is suggesting I send them my speakers or the drivers and they will complete the installation. They are also located in Hungary. Smell a rat?

I wouldn't do it if I were you, there must be a reason B&W did the driver the way they did! And yes I wouldn't like the idea of sending my speakers to Hungary!

I don't think it can be done without changing the fundamentals of the driver. Its too risky, and does not justify the chance of never seeing your drivers again. Keep your drivers original, or get it repaired or even replaced.

            Agree with you all.

I had another idea, that I could swap the driver out from the surround speaker DS8S. But I measured it and the drivers on the DS8S's are actually bigger than the 805S.

In the end, I actually managed to get it 90% back to normal using duck-tape carefully.

            Thanks for the comments

              805s Wiring - Bi-Amp Jumpers?
              by bresna
I received a pair of 805s speakers for Christmas. The seller updated the tweeters to the current diamond tweeter and they sound so sweet. I am very happy.

The seller was bi-amping the speakers so when I received them, the jumpers weren't attached. The directions on hooking them up are...

              Phase Plug

A phase plug is a stationary structure placed at the center of the loudspeaker driver's diaphragm, just in front of the voice coil. It is typically a cylindrical or conical-shaped object made of materials like plastic, metal, or wood. The phase plug's design may vary depending on the specific driver and its intended application. Its primary purpose is to improve the driver's performance by addressing issues related to phase cancellation and dispersion. The function of the...

803S/805S setup - now up and running, and yes, it's impressive!
              by jazzyjez
In October 2007 I asked the question on this forum: "Is an 803/4/5 setup too large for my room?" To briefly recap, I was initially considering the 700 series, but was then trying to determine whether the 800 series would work for me given my slightly narrow room (12ft / 3.7m) and my wishes...

Bowers & Wilkins phase plug UPGRADE. Applies to all B&W speakers with phase plugs!
              by hockey_101
Has anyone upgraded the plastic phase plug's on their B&W speakers for a pair of aluminum or copper ones similar to the phase plugs used in the signature speakers?

I found these on eBay and plan on upgrading my 684's, 686's, and HTM-62 Center Channel. I went out on a whim and purchased...

              Hi guys

Rel subs have a high level connection via the left + & - and the right + only at the speaker connections on the power amp. They also allow you to have this high level connection and a low level connection hooked up at the same time.

How do I do a high level...
