Negative.... If you want a pair they will have to be used... Not sure how hard they are to find... Probably depends on where you live...Originally posted by JaguarXKRDo they still make the 801D and how hard are they to find, if they dont make them anymore?Main System:

Does anyone know why B&W stopped making the 801's? I am interested in these because I am looking for a speaker that can play into the low 20 Hz range with authority and without the use of subwoofer(s).
I heard a few different reasons from dealers like "they had too much bass", "B&W didn't sell many of the 801d", "the bass is slow/bloated/sluggish", "when the factory moved B&W didn't want to bring the machine that presses the wood into shape....", etc, etc..
Does anyone know the real reason why they were discontinued?- Bottom

Yes.. Most all of the 800 series B&W speakers will sell used for around 60% of their original cost.. So for 801D you will be looking at around 10-12k for a good set.Originally posted by JaguarXKRDo you have any idea of cost?
Don't forget they weigh 260lbs each, so getting them home will also have some cost associated with it...Main System:

I think it is more due to them not selling as well in the home audio side. I think they figured that the 800D and the 801D were both close in price and performance, but the 800D would probably sell better due to its smaller footprint. So in this latest series they just made the 800Di.Originally posted by kaitkeiDoes anyone know why B&W stopped making the 801's? Also, the 801D cannot play into the low 20 hz range with authority.. Its -3db at 29 Hz.. This is still outstanding for a full range speaker...Main System:

A representative told med only sold something like 800 pairs of them. Not enough to offset the development costs.. It was a business decision.Originally posted by kaitkeiDoes anyone know why B&W stopped making the 801's? by RebelManI have seen the advice of many say that you have to have identical speakers all around for a true 5.1 (6.1, 7.1...) channel listening experience. Well... maybe you do. But then it struck me. What was B&W thinking? Why would they make the other channels so different then? Why don't they recommend...-

by hhcanI finally listen to DVD audio and it's really a big different comparing to 2 channel music. However, the SOUND comes from each speaker is so dull(like mono) comparing to the sound of 2 channel CD using the same type of cable (the cheap red/white pairs that come with every DVD player).

by wettouSpikes do they make a difference?
I just received five boxes of Spikes from B&W and am wondering if I should install them on the 802Ds
Anyone with experience listening to music with and without would be greatly appreciated-

by KarmaHI All,
I’m in the midst of an experiment. The HT system I am currently putting together is for my bedroom. It’s now mostly finished and I must say it sounds very good. Here is the essence of the experiment.
Can I use a good bookshelf speaker (the 805S) and a good subwoofer...-
