    CM1s on a bookshelf?

Considering purchase of two CM1s for R/L speakers for home theater. Wife has vetoed floor stands, so am wondering if placing the CM1s on bookshelves on either side of TV will be a problem? Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thx

That shouldn't be a problem at all. CM1 is a good sounding speaker but will need more low end so better plan for a sub as well!

Thanks Dan. I was concerned about the CM1 rear ports, and fact that the speakers might only have 20" or so of clearance to the back wall of the unit. Any issues? Thanks again.

Speakers on book shelves can be tricky business. They are never going to sounds as good as a proper stand, but here are some things you can do to get the most of out them.

        1. Installed rubber feet or spikes and cups onto the speaker to isolate it as much as you can from the shelf.

        2. Avoid putting them in enclosed shelfs such as a book case.

        3. Move the speaker as far forward as you can. The drivers should be flush with the front of the shelf to avoid reflections off the shelf itself.

        4. Play with the port plugs to get the bass response the way you want. Rear firing ports can be hard to get right, but should enhance the low end on smaller speakers.

        5. Keep other object such as books etc. off the shelf... I know.. Its called a bookshelf, but.....

        6. The heavier you can make the shelf/unit the better. This will avoid resonance.

        7. Try to set them up so that the midrange drive is approximately at ear level when listening.

        8. All other speaker rules apply.

        Cheers,

        Stuart

          Good enough above.

Also if you don't have room for a sub but have room for a little bigger bookshelf the 685 is great speaker! If I had to choose between the CM1 and the 685, the 685 is a much fuller sounding speaker with great mid bass punch that the CM1 lacks!
