I wanted to upgrade my DM602 S3/DM601 S3 and CC60 S3 with CM9/CM5/CMC2. First I went to a local BB. They had CM9 connected to Pioneer SC55 and Denon CD changer. It sounded great. Good tight bass, no comparison to my 602s. Very good imaging and great dynamics. If there is anything to criticize it would be a slight treble harshness at very high sound level. It kind of reminded me my 602 but it was much less pronounced, barely detectable. They did not have CMC2 only CMC1. Today I went to a local independent dealer. I wanted to compare CM9 to 805 Diamond but they did not have 805 on sight. I listened to 804. It was connected to Mark Levinson electronics with Conrad Johnson CD player used as a source. Needless to say 804 was very impressive. No treble harshness there. Incredible imaging. I would say heavenly. Great detail. CM9 provides plenty of detail but 804 is in totally different league. Acoustic guitar was a real treat on 804. If I could find a fault with 804 it would be somewhat boomy bass. It could be due to the room or electronics I don't know. Nevertheless I came out quite impressed. I might still settle for CM9 which is less than half the price of 804. I need to compare it to 805.

Nice auditioning.. To be fair to the CM9, you likely would have got better results using a good stereo amp over the 9.1 Class D reciever. Maybe some of that top end harshness would go away.
If you are using the DM602 S3 with good results then the 805Di will probably be an excellent fit. Is is a remarkable two-way stand mount.. Like the 602 on steroids.. It might have a little less bass then the 602 as the driver is smaller.
Anyways.. If you can fit the 804Di, I would go for it... It is the best of the bunch..Main System:
B&W 801D
Emotiva USP-1 Pre-Amp
Chord SPM-650 Stereo Amp
Oppo BDP-105
Squeezebox Touch
Second System:
B&W CM7
Emotiva UMC-1
Emotiva UPA-2
Oppo BDP-83SE
Grant Fidelity DAC-09

Thank's stuofsci. I am not giving up on CM9 just yet. I need to hear it again with different electronics. Another problem with 804 or 805 was that HTM4 would not fit my cabinet. CMC2 fits. If I wanted to stay with 804 I would have to get CMC2 as center. I am not sure if that would be a good idea.- Bottom

by J.WalesHello all - After a few years of drolling, I am finally ready to make my first B&W purchase. I have been looking at the 804 and 805 as a starting point. (Would love 803s but out of the budget at this point)
What are others experiences? What are some good matching components?...-

by nick.hHi,
I have found a pair of Nautilus 804 and 805 forsale. Are they worth purchasing. They are aparently in excellent condition (unsold stock) and a half the cost of the current 800 series range.
So my question still stands? is it worth it? is there a huge gap in sound quality...-

by moosepapiI would love to purchase a pair of used 804 or 803s speakers. I cant find any around where I live to audition. I've listened to the CM9's as that is as close as I can get. I'm not a true audiophile but want a good HT and music system. I have considered the 9's for my fronts and I already have the...-

by southpaw75Upgradeitis recently took its toll on me and there is only one prescription for it - give in to the symptoms and UPGRADE!
My current system is no slouch, at least I don't think it is. Emotiva 8.3 towers for mains, 6.3 center and ERD-1's for my 2 surrounds. They are powered by an...-
