    New 804 Diamonds have arrived!

I received a surprise phone call from my dealer this afternoon. He informed me that my new 804 Diamonds were unexpectedly delivered to the showroom today. I had placed my order a few weeeks back, however, I was not expecting to take delivery until mid-March (earliest). Seems like the first of the initial 800 Diamond inventory here in the US is now being distributed. I'm planning on picking them up tomorrow (it's going to be a long night). I'll keep you informed on the performance and post some pics in the next few days.

I'm going with the rosenut finish. I bought the dealer's demo pair of SCMS speakers (also in rosenut) a few weeks back. These have been hung on the rear wall as surrounds. I've also got the HTM4 Diamond on order. All the speakers will be driven by an Arcam AVR600 which is doing just fine with my current KEF iQs.

          Great selection.

Please show some pics. There's nothing better than pics from real owners.

Believe me, it was killing me to sit through my last meeting of the day knowing the new speakers were there waiting. Unfortunately, the dealer closed up shop at 5 PM. Just as well, I've got to put in the hours to pay off the new "Di" surcharge. Just gotta get through the night...

Congrat's on the Diamonds RedRock. :T

I was relieved to know you got the rosenut SCMS. I was trying to get the other pair in black ash last month but Jim wasn't ready to sell off the demos just yet. When I went to the store last weekend and seen your pair missing from the wall I razzed him a little and told him I knew who he sold them to.
I'm picking mine up this Saturday. I sure hope he has his Diamond demo's set up by then.

                  RedRock, my congratulations, too!

If possible, we'd like to know the differences between the new 804Di and the old "S" one.

Great choice! I bet they look insanely good with the grills off now that they use magnets.

Excellent system you will have. Is your dealer delivering these to you? That's a nice size order you have. Looking forward to your impressions.

Here are a few photos of my new 804 Diamonds. I initially set them up 20" from the front wall and 10' apart. After a few minor placement adjustments, the 804 Diamonds seem to be fairly room-friendly, with excellent imaging and balance considering my rather limited placement options. I've been listening to a variety of music in 2 channel stereo for a few hours now and I have to say the sound quality out of the box (with no break-in) is exceeding my expectations. Still a bit tight, however, the overall tonal balance is very smooth without any excessive brightness or harsh peaks. The diamond tweeter definitely sounds clean, crisp, and more extended than the 804S I listened to in the showroom earlier today. The bass response is surprisingly robust and may be slightly better than the previous version. In general, I believe the 804 upgrade represents real improvement, mainly in the high-end response and a broader, more cohesive soundfield. So far, I'm very satisfied with the performance!

Regarding the visual aspects, once the speakers were put in place, the silver trim was not nearly as noticable as I thought it would be. The clean lines afforded by the magnetic grills are certainly a plus. The quality of the veneer and rosenut finish is outstanding. Overall, the color is very similar to the previous 800s, but just a slight bit darker when compared to my SCMs.

Very nice. They do look quite good in your setup. I'm glad they also are sounding a bit better than you expected. You will definitely get used to them quickly.

I'd say my listening is about 60/40 (stereo/HT). I still enjoy 2 channel, however, I'll be getting more involved with HT, especially since adding the AVR600 to the system.

Top notch cs without the snobbery, which is a commodity around here considering they are in a wealthy community (There is one in Bridgeport, CT about 20 miles north and are complete snobby aholes which is rather funny because they are in the middle of the slums).

The M5 has an exceptional system, but I said this in another post, the only thing I critically listen to in there is the exhaust note and the occasional cry to slow down when doing 200MPH.

I wish the economy was not the way it is and the smog regulations were not getting very aggressive because BMW was heading towards building up there 12 cylinder for the new generation M5.

as for a Jag, I just started to like them now they have this really cool look to them, and was unaware that B&W speakers came in them.......nice

and what I said about BMW customer service is a shame because the dealer always goes way out of there way to make me happy but I have a issue with the roundel in the center of my steering wheel and battled with BMW over it and it came down to me telling them fix this under warranty or loose my business forever, and they seem fine with that. I guess my next 100K will have to go into Dr. Porsche's pocket.

To the OP............. I apologize for getting of topic, and those speakers are only going to get better once they loosen up a bit. I know it sounds strange that speakers have to loosen up a little from new to give you tighter bass, but it is more like that when they are new they are not moving as fast as they will once the surround breaks in a little.

HaHa I get it, but I did not mean that in a negative way towards the OP. He stated that the rings did not show to him as much as he thought they would but for me personally I am used to the speakers without the rings so it is like an imperfection to my eye.

I wish the economy was not the way it is and the smog regulations were not getting very aggressive because BMW was heading towards building up there 12 cylinder for the new generation M5.

I'll certainly miss the revving engines. That's why I plan on keeping my E90. It could be the last NA M car. :E
