    Building a new 5.1 setup.

Alright in just about 2 weeks I will be starting a massive construction job in my basement. I will be tearing out all of the old wiring, upgrading to a new 200 AMP service, and building me a computer room, and a nice home theater room. I look to have everything done within 4 to 6 months (I work too much to get it finished in less time). I want to do the work myself so I know it is done right, and for the enjoyment of using POWER TOOLS...Anyways I digress.

What I am interested in is everyone's oppinion of the HT build. I currently have B&W 685's which will move to the rear. I will continue using my ASW608 sub. I will like to add B&W 683's for front duty, and B&W HTM61 for center work. However, I am completely up in the air on the power plant for the system. To keep things simple I will be limited to $ 2,000, and I would like an AVR. Here are my top 5 picks. What do you all think?????

    1. Yamaha RX-V3900
    2. Rotel RSX-1550
    3. Integra DTR-7.9
    4. Denon AVR-4308Ci
    5. Onkyo TX-SR876

BTW I will post pics of the project during the construction..and eventually the finished project................Can't wait to start

    Ryan,

First of all, building a dedicated room is a great idea. We did that last year, and it is awesome.

As to your choice of receivers, the Rotel would be my recommendation. Rotel and B&W go very well together. And the Rotel's amps are likely the best of that lot.

The best thing to do is test them out and let your ears decide, if this is possible.

    Hope this helps.

      htsteve, thanks.

Fortunately my local dealer has integra, rotel, yamaha, and denon......So there will be plenty of testing..Oh yeah, they also carry B&W.

After doing some internet research here is what I found VIA hometheatermag.com

        Yamaha RX-V3900:
Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
        0.1% distortion at 69.2 watts
        1% distortion at 81.5 watts
From CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 190.4 watts and 1 percent distortion at 220.6 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 239.1 watts and 1 percent distortion at 282.9 watts.

        Rotel RSX-1550:
Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
        0.1 % distortion at 84.3 watts
        1 % distortion at 111.4 watts
From CD input to speaker output with two channels driving 8-ohm loads, reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 121.6 watts and 1 percent distortion at 150.1 watts. Into 4 ohms, the amplifier reaches 0.1 percent distortion at 188.9 watts and 1 percent distortion at 235.0 watts.

I don't think you can beat the bang for your buck of a Yamaha + Emotiva setup.

Rotel 1057 vs Marants SR8002 or others?
              by tpirovol
              Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has gone from a 1056 or 1057 to a marantz SR8002. Just wondering if they noticed a large improvment. Also what other receiver would beat the rotel in terms of Audio (ie. Integra, Onkyo, Yamaha?)

              Thanks Terry

Will Rotel RSX-1067 handle 4 ohm center OK?
              by ZiggyB
Newbie to this forum. Contemplating upgrading my Integra to a Rotel RSX-1067 (yeah, conteplated seperates but for now a single receiver is adequate). I have a mixture of 8 and 4 ohm speakers, the center being the only 4 ohm one. Will the Rotel 'handle' this mixture OK? The Integra had a menu option...

              Rotel Questions
              by Scott Ryan
              Hello,

Have some questions for you Rotel folks. First, some background. I am in the middle of having built our HT/Family Room. The room measures 25x13x8. On one end is a gas fireplace and custom cabinets/shelves. The other end is an open staircase an half wall to the main level.

Hello all! I am a relative newcomer to the audio scene and have some questions about a Rotel combo I am thinking of upgrading to. My current system ,that I have owned for about a year, consists of :
              -Yamaha RXV-2400
              -Yamaha DVDS 840
              -Energy Connoisseur C-9 Fronts, C-C3 center, C-R3...
