Hi, please could you let me know whether it is possible to remove the tweeter when you remove the upper woofer. I would welcome any comments on how to change the tweeter as well. My son punctured the tweeter and I have to change the tweeter myself as I have not been able to find any BW repair shop in the Czech Republic and I do not want to damage the speaker.

    Thank you

    Martin

I know I am replying to an old post but I did take my XT8s to bits one day. More or less like the 683 but substitute the particle board with aluminium IIRC. I don't think there were separate chambers.

I did actually reply to your post first but for some reason it didn't make it! Take the FST off and then reach up and there is a threaded locking collar holding the tweeter on. Take that off and push the assembly out.

If anyone is complaining about the build quality of a set of 683's they obviously haven't taken apart a set of speakers from another brand in this price point. In my option, the 600 line is impressive in terms of build quality and craftsmanship for a budget line set of speakers! Look at the detail in that crossover (perfect winding, nice solder joints) as well at the matrix bracing (no jagged edges). Even the wiring and internal cabinet foam is well placed and put together. Just goes to show you can't please everyone and this is coming from a guy who at times can be overly critical.

Since another member mentioned the 800 line up, the only gripe I have about them is the weak clear coat they use on the paint finish (gloss black). That stuff will scratch if you breath on it! Really B&W?? They really need to look for a more durable clear coat to use on their finishes.

Old post/thread but note that MDF = medium density fiberboard, so "seriously dense" is not possible nor is it desirable.

Hello, I also have a 683 S1, and I'm trying to modify the filter so that it is more accurate. But I have a problem and it is that I can not know the values of the coils. Do any of you know them?

Dan (PewterTA) & i have some experience with B&W speaker mods.
however we did not change any of the crossover components.

we did, however, install high-grade Belden wire & silver soldered all the terminal connections.
there were obvious & worthwhile improvements in the sound quality after doing so.

The B&W support website has technical drawings of the crossovers on some speakers. It may give you the values.
