What do you use to clean your speakers with?

    As above really?

The 803 and 805s look like they could do with a wipe down, as they have been sitting in the showroom for a while?

    They are the cherrywood colour.

Would polish such as pledge be suffiecient, sprayed onto a cloth first, or is this potentially damaging?

I have just wiped them with a clean cloth for now, but the white cloth I used looked quite grubby? Just curious if I can use something with a little more cleaning power, and if its possible to make the grain 'pop' out a little more?

    Many thanks

Hi David, I'm sure this topic has been covered before...do a little searching, and I suspect you'll find what you're looking for.

BTW, I usually just spray a feather duster with endust and lightly dust them. You should have also received a cleaning cloth with the speakers..this works well too.

          Microfiber clothes only.
But Blindamood is right, do a search for it. We had a discussion about this not so long ago.

I use Pledge with a quality automotive microfiber rag. For areas around the drivers where you might not want to get overspray on I spray directly onto the microfiber then wipe. IMO the more you use Pledge, the better the speakers look over time. Out of the box my B&W's where very dry and flat looking and after dusting a few times with Pledge they look much more brillant and have more life to them, lol. Along with shine, it deepens and darkens the look too.

I've been scared of using Pledge. Pledge is like the mop n' glow of wood.
emig5m, are you using them on your 604s?

683's... Used it on my previous speakers for 14 years. Use it on most everything actually, lol. The thing with Mop n' Glow is that it makes nasty grimy build up over time and has to me stripped. Pledge doesn't do this. :P

Lemon (or citrus) Oil, real wood veneer loves it. It replaces the natural oils that the wood loses over time (especially from UV exposure).

Interesting. I did not know that about lemon oil.

I asked B&W UK and they said any common household polish would do, first guesses must be pledge multipurpose?

It seems this topic holds more controversy than mains cables :E

I have used pledge multi surface wipes twice, and the first effort took quite a bit of grime off the speaker cabinets, they were very dirty?

Maybe now I shoud refrain from doing it so often now and just dust with a clean soft cloth? I can feel the surface of the speaker is quite smooth, almost slippery.

Does pledge contain wxes or silicones then?

I quite like the idea of an oil based product that would bring out a nice sheen and get the grain to pop, but as I said there appears to be a varied consensus on this subject.

Don't be scared, I'm now using it on my 804S's...hehe. It definitely deepens and darkens the veneer. Much better looking then the speakers out of the box. And the comment about 'lemon oil' - my can of Pledge Ultra says it contains lemon oil! :T

I tried Pledge Multi-Purpose wipes on my 805s. Did it make a difference? No, but at the same time I've kept my speakers very clean every since the day I received them. So I wasn't surprised. But it gave me a good feeling that the speakers were cleanER.

However, I don't want to use pledge wood spray because I've used Pledge on natural wood furniture for years and years and have seen the end result. Even though it looks good, it keeps an unnatural shine to them. I had a wooden dining table for 8 years that I only cleaned with pledge. I also had a solid oak bedroom set that I only cleaned with pledge for 6 years. I'm sure it does deepen and darken the wood, but I don't want that unnatural shine that my other furniture had after years of use. But thank you for the recommendation.

I also use Pledge and find it works well. I clean my speakers about 4-6 times a year.

This is all interesting. I've never had a need to clean my speakers: I just dust them with a "swiffer" cloth. The veneer has richly darkened on its own over time and I don't really see a need to use a cleaner or polish.

                                    Hi,

well, the wood with the time ( the years) will be dry or so like that.....

I don't have never used "polish" or others products but is not a stupid idea

                                    elasticity, beauty and great sound?!

                                    I agree with William:

this is a old threads in the forum and the lemon/citros oil was the best solution...

Just use a swiffer and give it a good dusting. I see no reason to polish at this point.

I use Pledge with natural orange oil in the atomizer container. I spray onto a soft cloth and wipe down my 703's.

While i think my speakers look great, it's time to find a grill to protect those aluminum drivers.

What would be the best choice for grill cloth that is acoustically transparent.
