    ASW750 Grill/Cover vibration issue

I was just wondering if fellow asw750 owners have an issue with the cover vibrating when the speaer is at max volume?

I have to take it down to half volume before the cover stops vibrating on this speaker. Unfortunately I bought it used so I can't return it and was wondering if this was normal.

Of course, if I take off the cover, at max volume the speaker doesn't miss a beat, but it's kind of annoying having to do so because it's behind my AT screen.

Any tips/thoughts? Would a new cover fix the issue or is this par for the course?

    Thanks again.

No, I've never had that problem vernonl, and I crank mine up from time to time.

      Thanks Nigel!

So I guess I need to decide whether to try buying a new cover to see if it fixes it?

I've got a pretty big room with sound dampening on the walls. It's great for the acoustics from the system but does require a little more juice as well.

The ASW-750 runs fantastically at full volume though. No distortion or clipping which I think is amazing. If only the damn grill wouldn't vibrate. I'd really prefer to keep it on just because I have two rottweilers who like to sometimes initiate play in front of my setup before I have time to yell at them

            Hi,

A rare post for me in club B&W!

Me neither.... I've a 750 too and I used to run it at full when in another room. Never an issue with vibration. I'm running it a 4/10 or so now in my family room and it's bang on at that.
            Vincent.

I don't want the world. I just want your half.

Before you replace the grill you might want to try and identify where and why it is vibrating. Is the mounting loose? Is the grill actually broken? What is vibrating against what? Maybe you can cure the vibration without having to buy anything

I took a look last night and if I push on the grill it stops vibrating but that's just because I'm holding it flush to the sub's surface. It looks like it's very loose in the sub when it clips in. It's doesn't look like anything's broken either, so it's probably the plastic frame that's vibrating against the sub. I'm thinking if there's any way to put something between he frame and sub but it's so thin I'm not sure any kind of foam would fit without forcing the sub out of its clips. Any ideas?

                  How about a "band-aid" fix.
Try putting a bandaid on the back of the grill - maybe 4, one in the middle of each side of the grill. Or electrical tape might work

I don't have that sub, so am not sure how the grill is attached. It could be the grill itself is fine, and in the parts it clips into are worn or broken. Maybe something wrapped around the pins would make them fit tighter. Are they all loose, or just one?

Interesting idea. The bandaid may be thin enough it wouldn't pop out. I'll let you know!

How about just leaving the grill off? I prefer no grills on all my speakers and sub.

Prob with no grill is I love it, but my Rottweilers will enjoy puncturing a nice hold in it too. I need the extra protection w/ my two girls (read dogs) bouncing around the home theatre room.

I actually figured out I need to get the grill slightly away from the box for it not to vibrate, so I stuck some foam in the holes to get it a little further from the box. That seems to have worked enough to allow me to keep the volume at 3/4 now. I'd prefer full volume but oh well. I'll keep experimenting

To answers Robert L a bungie cord would look pretty ghetto with my setup as you can see.

So far the foam seems to be working. I'll keep adding a little bit more and see if I can get the sub up to higher volumes while not having the grill fall off.

I have recently noticed a metal vibration sound coming fro the m400 fins. My listening room is pretty well acoustically treated, when I clap my hands, I can hear an echo coming from the fins sounding like metal strings. Double checked with music - When i mute, i can detect that very short...

Well I have had an issue, not a small one, and am very upset with Earthquake's response. We had the system on playing a movie as background noise when I heard a loud POP and a strange noise I'd never heard before. I glanced back at...

Hello, I have a asw750 sub and I want a real good pair of speakers to match. I´m looking at 805´s 703´s and maybe even the new 683´s!

I can´t demo the asw750 at my local store because they don´t have any in stock. My other major problem is that I live far away from the store and...

I posted this test methodology as part of another thread. After writing it, I thought it might carry more gereral interest among the more technicaly minded members. I decided to expand it a bit and post here. It might prove useful to anyone who has a system capable of powerful, fully...

I am checking out the B&W ASW750 and the Velodyn DD10 to go with my B&W 750/HTM7. The saleman at a local stereo store told me that the ASW750 is a little bit better but it has to be placed at the right position for the best sound. The DD10 can be placed anywhere and then can be programmed...
