Looking for Bass Alignment Filter for Bowers and Wilkins 800 Series Speakers

Looking for the bass alignment filter for B & W Bowers and Wilkins 800 Series speakers.

Considering the Krell, JPS Golden Flute, anodyne, KBX Krell, or Northcreek (801/802) bass alignment filter.

The stock/original B & W filter, the one with the wall-plug, will also do.

Please e-mail if you know where to find one or if you would like to sell yours.

    Thank you,

    Gilbert

    Welcome Gilbert61e,
I'm not sure what you mean by "Bass Alignment Filter". Perhaps you can clarify?

      Hello Gilbert!
I think the original BAF will disappoint you unless you have a studioinstallation with the old 800 on stands.

I base this on my experience with the BAF for Matrix 801 series3, there is a difference in the sound but not sure it is 'better'.

I ended up buying North Creek filters which is a completely different thing.
Sometimes i think the 801 ser.3 is The Best Speaker ever, the filters are a great match.

(The BAF i no longer have any use for is one without the "switch" for the different 800 models, mine is fixed for 801)

This is just my opinion, most important is North Creek filters are fantastic!
      /Joakim

        B&W 801, Series 2 Bass Alignment Filter

The Bass Alignment Filter I was referring to is for a pair of Vintage Matrix 801 Series 2.

The following is the description found in the Instruction Manual:

B&W bass alignment filter.... "This external filter gives the possibility of extending response down to 19hz (-3db point) with a sixth order Butterworth alignment, and also filtering out sub-sonic frequencies which may give rise to excessive cone excursion and intermodulation distortion"

        ----

One channel of my original filter RCA connections is not making full contact. I have to jostle the connection for it to make full contact. 90% of the time if works fine, but the 10% is the reason I need a replacement. I'll look into possibly re-soldering new
RCA connections if I do not find another filter.

Sorry for not being more specific. I realize there are a lot of new 801 models since the Series 2.

          Joakim,

Could you please tell us more about the Creek Filter.

I have read about it and saw there was a new production some month ago, but I got the impression that it was more for the Series 2 than for the Series 3 (Matrix 801).
As the Creek Filter isn't the cheapest I am not sure to take the risk that the improvement isn't worth it.

Could you also write something about installing the filter (how easy? it is).

          Thanks.

Gilbert, the "BAF" will not help you with the RCA problem, You'll need to resolder. (The BAF is installed somewhere else in the chain, i can send you a manual to describe if you like)

The North Creek filter is great, how big you will find the difference is personal, so is the ratio improvement/money.

It sounds great here with Matrix 801 series3!

The wiring is a bit tricky as the original B&W cables are very short but it's ok if you don't have extremely large hands or on a tight schedule... I never soldered mine, instead i crimped in a not too great manner.

I have a pair of 801 Series III speakers with the Anodyne bass alignment filter. I recently joined this site and have seen no information on the Anodyne or any other users who have this product. I would like to know if there are any other Anodyne users out here and if Anodyne still exists.

              Hi!

A friend of mine have bought a second-hand B&W HIGH-PASS ALIGNMENT FILTER for his B&W MATRIX 802 SERIES III, but he didn't received the manual within the packet. I saw a thread on Audiogon where someone posted this info:

B&W got a start after the rebuilding efforts of World War II as a radio and electronics shop. As the story goes, after supplying local schools and churches with PA equipment, John started having to repair them in the workshop in the backyard, and founded B&W Loudspeakers, Ltd in 1966.

              Bass Filter
              by Freddie40
When I got my Matrix 802s they came with a Bass alignment filter. Do they still come with some speakers. Are there advantages/disadvantages to using the filter?

              Thanks,
