    802, 801 and 800 caster/spike/feet question?

Wondering what people do for feet on their 802, 801 or 800 speakers. I just got a pair of 802's a couple of weeks ago. My dealer ordered the spike/feet sets and I got them yesterday. He said they are extra (no cost to me) and don't come with the speakers (seems strange). To my surprise they actually come in rather large (2) boxes and are themselves much, much larger and far more complex than the simple 803/804/805 screw in spikes. Is it worth the trouble/inconvenience of putting them on or just leave them on the casters? What do others do?

    william,

I have my 802D's on the carpet. No spikes. I've heard those are big, a pain to put on and once you get the speaker down, you pretty much don't move it again. So I opted to just go without. The plinth acts as a stand anyways, providing some separation of the cabinet from the floor.

    Hope this helps.

I've always just used the casters on my carpet. These are big heavy speakers.

Agreed I still have mike spike in boxes to cumbersome to put and as you said forget trying to move your speakers unless you name is Hercules and you can bench press 80kg or 176.36lb cold No thanks I like my back

              atchudy,

No, they won't. The 802D's and up have much bigger footprints and weight a lot more. The 'regular' spikes will support the 803. If you want to upgrade the 803 and not spend a lot of money, consider some good stands under them. I've used soundanchor stands with very good results.

              Hope this helps.

I always recommend Sonic Design Audiophile Damping Feet. Works like a charm on my 802D.

What are the feet/spikes on the HDM1D? Is it the same as the 802D's/up Spike Foot Kit or is it the same as the 803D's? Since the HDM1D weighs over 200lbs (more than the 802D) it should have the heavy duty Spike Foot kit. Why doesn't B&W use casters standard? I would like to be abler=e to fine adjust the HDM1D like I can the 803D's.

                      This is what I use:

They work great. Tighten the bass and raise the tweeters to ear level.

I have wondered about the Sound Anchor stands for my 8o2N. They would put the center of the tweeter about 5" higher then my ear. Has anyone compared them on and off the Sound Anchor stands. Thanks.

Can you adjust the up/down yourself or does it take at least 2 people?

Well I certainly adjusted myself but then again it depends on how strong you are. Sure my wife would never be able to it on her own.

Yes, I do have sound anchors under my N802's. I owned them for my N804's before that and I will probably always use them under my L/R speakers. I find that it creates a wider soundstage and tightens the bass up.

ive seen them selling on ebay for $200 per box. some higher. I still have mine and have not installed them. same reason as everyone else, once you put them on, your not moving your speaker. And what benefit will your receive.
If someone has placed them on there 802d's have you noticed any difference?

Out of curiosity do the stock casters come with some sort of locking mechanism?
I have this vision of big heavy dialec speakers walking around the floor when the ground shakes.

They don't lock and I also had that concern. However the 802D has enough weight that when it settles it mashes the carpet into a "crater" and mine haven't/can't move. In order to move you have to push hard enough to move it out of the "crater" and then it moves freely until you stop and let it settle again.

I use the spikes on the N802 (not the D; the previous series) and there really is a big difference for me. One person can change them and takes about 20 minutes. The process also gives you a feeling of caress and quality time with your loved ones
