Give Merv a call from Northside HiFi here in Brisbane Australia. He sells aftermarket 805 stands that look identical to the originals for half the price.

      His phone number is 07 3263 3949 .

      Cheers, Guy.

I agree. Thier stands are WAY over priced. It almost contradicts thier go to market strategy. They charge more because they believe their speakers perform better and therefor should cost more. Fine. I buy into the speakers...but whats with the stands costing 10Xs more then anything else? Where is the value?

B&W stands are way over priced, and if nothing else puts B&W in a relm of snake oil. Shame on them.

Are their original stand really better? Better than after market one?

              Better? no.

Designed to match the speakers bettter...probably. Does the design and materials used net the premium they charge? No chance. But hey, nothing should stop them form making as much money as possible I guess. I am sure they have done the research to support the fact tht people who invest in the 800 series dont shy away form the cost of the stands.

If they are like my ones for the 705s the quality could be better.

Maybe it is ploy to get you to buy 804s instead.

Have something custom made. Find a good local fabricator.

I got a pair of B&W 600 series stand for my 805S. It worked OK, but I wish I bought the proper 800 series stand.
You will not regret the purchase. Enjoy your beautiful 805S and the stands.

Just make sure that whatever sand you use, make sure that it has been dried and cleaned by the factory, if not it can cause rust on the inside of your stands. I believe children's play sand is clean and dry.

kobestonecold, I'd get some sand from Piha Beach. The black sand should tone in with your speakers nicely. Just make sure you don't go near the water because that must be the most dangerous popular swimming area in the world.

I got dry washed river sand from the local hardware.

Its been in there for 2 1/2 years or so with no problems, although it was messy filling them up. You want to fill them to the top for max weight and minimum resonance. I reckon my 705 would be significantly harder to knock over than my 804s.

Does cat litter have larger diameter than play sand? I use play sand in my stands (NOT 805 stands), and some came out of the joint between the bottom plate and column because the sand is too fine.
I may be picky here, but does anyone know if bigger sand sound better or finer sand?

My 805 stand come tomorrow. I did buy fine sand today and planning to put in rubbish big black bag then inside the stand. I don't have to worry about stand getting rust overtime.

The stands for the 805 are expensive but they are very nice looking. I filled them with playsand from Home Depot and called it a day.

I filled my 805 stands with lead shot (same as for 12 gauge shotgun).

Made a big improivement and also the burglars would get a hernia of they tried to lift them !

You mean steel shot right? :E I don't think they sell lead shot any more.

We put steel shot in ours, when we had them on display anyway, and it did make a big improvement. I think we put 25lbs in each stand.
