    New 683 Owner

Hi guys, just wanted to stop in and say hello. After a few weeks of auditioning and about a month of researching when I should have been working I finally picked up my new B&W 683's yesterday and I love em! I listened to a good number of speakers in their price range and they were by far my favorites (even over a few speakers a good deal more expensive then them). I've got them bi-amped by my Onkyo TX-SR805. My dealer told me to expect them to sound a bit brighter until they've broken in but they seem to sound amazing right out of the box. I also plan on getting the HTM61 and some 685's for surrounds within the next month or two. I'll post some better listening impressions once I've had some more time with them.

    Congrats!

Beware that Onkyo with BW seems to be a brighter combination.

To 600 series I would recomend, Denon, Marantz, and Rotel. They are well matched with this serie

Awesome, Jon. I got some 683s last week and I love them as well! I, too, plan on getting the HTM61 and either the 685s or 686s for the rear.

I had heard that and was a little nervous at first. My friend has some older 600 series (went with me to audition and now has 683's on order ) with an older onkyo and it is a tad bright, but none of that is evident with the 805. I'm really impressed with how well it is powering them for a standard receiver... the sound quality is truly quite good for the money.

                Another happy 683 owner

Well, I was so impressed with the 683s, I broke down and picked up a set along with Jon. I love my 601s and I was completely blown away when I heard the 683s. I now have to figure out what unplanned purchase I can get Jon to make as repayment for taking me to the audio store...

Well I'm ready to upgrade the juice to my 683's. Anybody have any opinion. Pioneer reciever just doesn't have any warmth. I think it is to much speaker for it. Any opinions. Also I want to upgrade to HD processing

                          I am powering 683 L/R and HTM-61 with a Classe CA-5100, and have an SSP-800 on order.

Classe with 600 series - wow!. Looking in my crystal ball I can see 800 series for you in the future (probably better ones than mine).

Not suggesting that the 600s are not up to the job. You would certainly hear all they are capable of assuming that you also do the necessary targeted tweeking.

Any particular tweaking you can recommend for the 683s?

The reason I asked is that I am having trouble connecting my Banana plugs via the binding posts on the back of the 683's this way. Anyone else know what I am talking about?

There's little caps on the connectors, you have to unscrew the binding post completely, pop the colored cap off screw the post back on then you banana plugs should plug in no problem.

Tweaking the 600 series could be re-wiring the internals with better quality cable???
