I think current space is about 3.0-3.5 m.

I have some old, terrible Sony receiver hooked up to a brand new pair of B&W 685s. I will be using them 80% with TV/Movies with 20% mp3/CD music. I assume I need a new receiver ( perhaps not) but the real core of the issue is that I have no idea what an amp/pre amp is... -
