    Dm22 help

So I just picked up a great looking pair of DM22's for a steal.

I want to do some cleanup work on the crossovers (I think).

These were made in February of 1981, and the crossovers have electrolytic capacitors. I believe they should be replaced, to help with a muddyish low end. If I understand correctly, electrolytic capacitors have a limited lifespan, so this shouldn't be that sacrilegious.

Any recommendations of what to replace them with? I'd like to stick with electrolytics. That said, I'm having difficulty finding 9mfd capacitors locally. Can I use a larger ones, or will I hork up the speakers as per the B&W Faq?

    Any other advice?

Pretty basic question on XO electrolytic caps

I want to replace an 880uf, 100V electrolytic capacitor (Nichicon) in the crossover of an old speaker. I looked all over the capacitor and cannot see any markings with regard to polarity. It is correct to assume that this is a non-polar (or bipolar) capacitor, right? And further that polar electrolytic...

What to do with 0.4 farads of electrolytics?

While going through the forgotten equipment boxes while cleaning out the electronics bay at work I found an old (1986) linear regulated supply, 24V and 10.4V outputs IIRC. Anyway, this thing was gigantic, old, and was gonna be chunked, so my buddy and I scavenged it for parts and I got a pair of 196,000uF...

Bypass capacitors - do they work?
    by mickster1972
I just finished building Dr. K's MTM (using the Dayton RS28a tweeter and RS180 midwoofer) from partsexpress.com -- I really like the sound. It is an improvement over the Dayton/VIFA MTM that was originally housed in my homemade 1.0 cu. ft. boxes.

Anyway, I am always hunting for my next...

    High value capacitors
    by Scareurpasenger
So, I am getting supplies together for a few new speakers but am trying to optimize performance and budget. Based on some reviews it looks like there may be some lower priced capacitors out there that seem to out perform for the price point. I just haven't seen anyone else mention these brands for use...

    Question about fried capacitors
    by ChaoticKinesis
I've seen some mention of the need to be careful when soldering capacitors so as not to fry them and was wondering how much heat is too much. Also, in the case that a capacitor is fried, does it just lose its capacitance or will it no longer pass a signal?
