What to do with 0.4 farads of electrolytics?

While going through the forgotten equipment boxes while cleaning out the electronics bay at work I found an old (1986) linear regulated supply, 24V and 10.4V outputs IIRC. Anyway, this thing was gigantic, old, and was gonna be chunked, so my buddy and I scavenged it for parts and I got a pair of 196,000uF 15V Mallory CGS electrolytics, and another pair of 36,000uF 35V of the same. Now these are 20 year old caps, so no way I'm putting them in anything I spend serious time on. But is there anything cool I can do with these? Rail gun? Pyrotechnics? Arc welding screw drivers?

So yeah, lookin for a cool project to use these guys with. Doesn't matter if they blow up. Anybody got any ideas, lemme hear em

I think that a decent use for them would be welding tabs to build NiMH and LiIon battery packs.

Whatever you do, be careful! Plan for what happens when they pop or melt, and follow all proper precautions for working with high current circuits. If you needed me to tell you that, then you might want to think twice of using them

Seriously though, you ever try to solder to the end of an 18650?

I usually just use a silver content solder with copper bridges to make NiMH packs... 850 degree setting on the iron.

        Anthologies flat packs now available
        by joshp214
I've talked someone in to putting together flat packs for the Anthologies speakers, because it doesn't seem that many folks are building them and honestly I believe many are missing out.

Go to MelbyAudio.com and look for Anthology flat pack.

        Solder recommendations
        by dynamowhum
I have started building some crossovers lately and ran out of solder. Went to the local big box and ended up with Lennox Solder. Lets just say this stuff is SH**. Ugly joints and messed up gun tip. I searched and found Jon likes Cadas quad eutetic and ordered some. Is there any other solder out there...

        What kind of solder?
        by Hdale85
Was wondering what kind of solder you guys use? I was thinking about the dayton silver solder.

This is a Public Service Announcement for those new to soldering.

Whether you are soldering chips to a printed circuit board, or twelve gauge wire to a passive crossover component, you are most likely using flux-cored solder. Flux is a chemical that etches metal and removes corrosion...

        Solder or crimp-on Tweeter Connection?
        by Armand
        Hi all.

I need to connect very low gauge Cardas wire (I'd guess 10-12ga.), to the tiny posts of a Seas tweeter. Previously the connection was soldered but it looks like a bear to redo as there's not much extra length on the wire connected to the crossover, which makes connecting the two...
