    Advice with HTM1D center channel

    Hi,

I am a new forum member and this is my first post. I have been a two channel kind of a guy for a long long time and I am about to make the just to a 5.1 system. I plan on adding a HTM1D center channel and two Signature 8NT's for my rear speakers. The existing system includes a pair of 800D's powered by two Classe CA-M400 monoblocks. I am using the Classe SSP 600 as my preamp/surround sound processor

Now for the question. I am planning to power the center and rear channels with the Classe CA-3200, 3X200 W/channel, biwiring the center channel. The other option is to get the CA-5200 and biamp the center channel. The latter is a pricier option, but if it would make a notable improvement in the system I would go ahead and bite the bullet and go this route.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I've also got an HTM-1D with two 800D's as front speakers.I'm using McIntosh amps 1201 for the front and used a 501 for the center.I upgraded to a 1201 for the center too, because it's the most important speaker for HT.The difference with the two fronts being pushed by the double of power gave a too large difference.I would use a CAM-400 for the center if I were you and a 2200 for the surrounds

    Regards,
    Jericho

The benefits of biamping is marginal.

3200 will do a perfect job.

Or if that will bother you forever; get another cam400 for the centre and a ca2100 for the rear.

Assuming that 5.1 and not 7.1 is your goal.

Thanks very much for your replies. I hadn't seriously thought about using another monoblock for the center channel. My dealer is pretty flexible so I'll see if I can try both setups in my system before I purchase.

          Thanks again

I second Kobus on the cam-400 for the center and a ca-200 for the rear, and it is for a 5.1 right??
            Cheers

Yes it is a 5.1 system.

                Center Channel Conspiracy?
                by RebelMan
Something that has been on my mind for quite some time is what I like to call the Center Channel Conspiracy Theory. Many of us already know the "theoretical" importance of timbre' matching speakers, especially across the front stage. But what is the real (practical) importance of speaker...

Poll: What model is your center channel?
                by tdiciple
This is of course a poll for B&W Center Channel speaker.

What model is your CC Channel? If your model is not in here, let me know. I will see if I can add them in.

                Loss of center channel (RSX-1055)
                by rotel&energy
Recently, I've had some problems with the center channel of my
RSX-1055 (completely up-to-date firmware). When I run a test tone through each speaker in my system (5.1), all of the speakers sound normal except the center channel. I have to raise the volume on the 1055 to 70+ in order to hear...

                Question about Center Channel
                by spykids777
                Hi,

I recently purchased the 803D speakers as my main. I also purchased the HTM4d as my center channel. I was told by the B&W technical people that those two should "timber match". Also the other reason why I purchased the HTM4d is because it sits on a 11" deep mantle....

Living with and without a center channel
                by csuzor
I have finally sold my HTM7. I found myself listening to its boxiness, its inability to reproduce the clarity of the 703, instead of just enjoying a movie or the music. It had to go.

Now, without a center speaker, watching a movie is terrible. The sound is very inaccurate, the phantom...
