    B&W and B&K Match ?

    Hi Guys

I've had my N805's for a while and some CD's sound great but some (most) sound bright and harsh. My electronics are B&K ref 20 pre and 4430 power amp. Using my Sony DVD changer for a player. RCA (analog) outs do mellow out the sound vs. optical out but too much on most music.

My ref 20 has no EQ so I am stuck with what comes out is this a bad combo? Is B&K sound typically "bright"?

    thx

      Hi Bob,

I don't have your combo but I do know about harsh and bright. My Rotel / B&W CDM9NT combination fitted that description when I first got it. Two things have corrected this situation. The first thing is hundreds of hours of playing music on my system. This has tamed my speakers a lot (or altered my hearing!). The second thing is an external DAC which has improved the sound quality greatly (richer, better bass, less edgy, warmer).

My advice would be to borrow a quality CD player and see whether you get a big improvement. If your speakers are new then give them some time. If neither of those things work then think about changing your other gear. It will be a shame if the problem is your 805's. Most people like them but everyone is different...

      Nigel.

        Brand new B&K/802 combo

Ok, I have B&K Ref 50 S2 preamp and the B&K Ref 200.7 S2 amp. My 802's do sound a bit bright and don't seem to carry enough base in 2 CH stereo. I did remedy the situation a bit by toe-ing them out a bit. I was considering using the EQ to fix, but I don't think this works in the 2CH LtRt mode.
Any suggestions out there for a new member?

The brightness that is perceived from the B&W line sometimes can be attributed to poor room acoustics, take care of those first reflection points and take another listen, things should smooth out for you.

I'm using the B&K Reference 5 S2 pre-amp and 125.2 S2 amp with B&W CDM 9NTs in my two channel setup. I'm feeding them primarily from my Olive Musica, and I think the sound is fantastic.

I've had a couple of glitches with my Ref 30. Have you expirienced these?
              by Bob Santos
I have had my Ref 30 for a week now.
              I have expirienced two glitches.
The first was while watching a the Tarzan DVD.
The sound all of a sudden stopped, and the front panel display went blank. The digital logo was still on indicating receiving a signal. I seitched to my satellite...

Hi all, I haven't posted in some time, but I am in store for some major a/v changes and in need of some solid advice.
I currently own a B&K Ref 50/7250 combo. My speakers are Paradigm 100's v2, CC-570, and SA-15R in ceilings (one pair), I use my PS3 for DVD/blu ray. My major issue is this:...

              Sonus Rotel combo?
              by doodleboytoy
Looking into the possibility of a Rotel 1055 + 1080 amp with Sonus faber speakers combo. Specifically the Sonus Cremona Auditor or Sonus Grand Piano Home.

Anybody used a Sonus/Rotel system here? How is it?

Cannot audition the gear together so I have to ask for your opinions....

              NuForce Ref 9's
              by gostan
After demoing various amplifiers over the past year, I made the decision to upgrade to the NuForce Ref 9's, which were delivered this past Friday. I thought that I would post my initial impressions as this product is rather new and has been the subject of some interesting responses on the two existing...

This post is very premature but, I need a break from what I was doing.

I set up a little system a year ago that I could easily pack and move to New Orleans and now Wilmington N.C. My intent was always to use it as some kind of secondary system whenever we fully settled down.
