    help with 802 series 80

What's up folks, new guy here. I recently acquired a pair of 802 series 80 speakers. They are cosmetically excellent. My problem is, I'm not sold on the sound. I'm no expert, or audio/stereophile. I'm a 2 channel guy who likes good sound. I listen to old jazz, some smooth jazz, rock (old and new), and some metal. Now on to my problems. When listening to harder rock, or metal, the upper mid or lower high freq. can be downwright irritating. Is it a trait of these speakers? Any ideas on how to tame them? Jazz stuff sounds pretty good. Maybe it's my other components, denon pra 1000 pre, nikko alpha 220 amp. Not exactly hi-fi gadgetry. When I use the tone defeat, the speakers sound terrible. I end up cranking up the bass & treble to get any kind of warmth. Are these the wrong speakers for my taste, or is something else wrong?

Sorry for the rambling, but any ideas or help would be appreciated.

    Jay

    10. Pete Townshend (The Who)

The guitar, as an instrument, has never sounded as angry as when played by Pete Townshend. Listen to “Young Man Blues” on Live at Leeds or “The Real Me” on Quadrophenia, and you will hear the sound of a man on the edge, abusing his instrument as the...

    HI all,

A quick snippet about me. I've been out of the audio scene for the last ten years or so, baby, house, wife, etc... In the past I've ran a few different setups, some old Klipsch LaScalas, Infinity, and my last setup was an Outlaw Preamp, Parasound amp, with B&W 6xx series...

    Rock N Roll Speakers?

Just wondering which B&W speakers you own or have owned that you consider the best for rock.I own the 683's and a lot has been been posted about them not being very good speakers to which I totally disagree. They are very revealing and do exceptionally well for jazz and classical music. And also do...

    B&W 802 upgrade from 805 Signatures
    by bcgator
    Hello all,

I'm looking for some feedback on the prospect of upgrading from 805 Signatures to B&W 802. I think what I'm most interested in are opinions around how different they sound, what types of music will sound better or worse on the 802, characteristics of the 805 Signature that...

    Rotel great for rock!
    by lastexit
Just wanna say that I've enjoyed my Rotel 10 series gear immensely over the last several years. Not only does it look great, but sounds great to boot! It handles all music equally well but if there's one genre which Rotel really excels at, it's rock (and jazz). Being the huge classic rock fan that I...
