    b&w dm601 s3 black ash , sorrento

I noticed that the black ash dm601's are quite heavier than the sorrento finish. How is this so? I thought it was only the finish that was different?

Where are you getting this information?
Reason I ask is that the latest 600 series 3 sales catalog lists the DM601 S3 as 6.1 kg or 13.4 pounds and there is no deviation from this by finish. Both the Sorrento and the Back Ash are applied vinyl finishes to what appears to be a composite wood case.

I weighed both and the black ash seemed heavier for some reason.

Could it be all the light that's absorbed by the black paint?

So you put them onto a scale or you just lifted one after the other and it "seemed" that way? In which case it is probably your imagination.

Not that I don't value all this painstaking scientific research you've done on our behalf... but what, pray tell, now that the academic heavy lifting is done, are we to learn from this...?

Technically and scientifically Black Ash will always be heavier than Sorrento finish, and that has been proven beyond doubt!!

Black Ash absorbs more heat too!!!!! :W

            Heavy discussion here!! :E

MDF sealant for Black Lacquer Finish
              by Solid-State
I'm curious what lacquer based sanding sealer people are using these days to apply a black lacquer finish to MDF. I need to be able to source it in Canada as well. This info was taken from ShopBot forum from a very experienced MDF cabinet maker.

"To get the best results, I suggest...

800 Series - Which Black do you prefer?
              by scanido
There seems to be a lot of turbulence on the direction B&W has chosen for their new black finish of the new 800 Series. I created this Poll out of curiosity to see which finish is more popular - Black Ash or Piano Black.

If the results for Black Ash are overwhelmingly positive, maybe...

Who wants Halo gear in black? :)
              by Chris D
This has been asked about here in Club Parasound ever since Halo gear was first introduced 10 years ago. Aaaaaand... you got it! Parasound continues to listen to their customers, here and elsewhere.

Hot off the press, formally released today. I've been keeping this under my hat for...

Final touches on a black glossy finish ?
              by jeff_free69
just about done with the finish on the cabs for my zaph SR-71.

This is my first "neatness counts / from scratch" project. All my previous projects have been either utility cabs for pro-sound or refurbs of good quality hifi cabinets.

Painting Peerless HDS Exclusive drivers black
              by cotdt
I just realised that the Peerless Exclusives look ugly in my black piano finish cabinet. I would prefer if the silver phase plug and frame was black. How would I go about making the drivers black, without affecting its performance?
