I've read numerous posts that say these two subs are virtually identical. However, the CDM manual states that it is a vented-box, whereas the 750 is closed. Does this make a big difference, and which is more advantageous?

My friend has one it's sealed no port or vent. It's the 12" speaker with a 1000w amp correct. I use the CDM 1NT speakers for my rears, and it has the same beveled edges as the ASW-CDM, where the ASW750's are squired. I am looking at the spec on the back of the manual, under Description; it states, Active Closed Box Subwoofer System. What Manual are you looking at? Is their a smaller version of the CDM?- Bottom

I pulled it off the website. Scrolled to the last page, where it says "active vented-box subwoofer system."
Here's the link:

I just looked at an ASW-CDM sub and made a photocopied on the manuals back page. It is not vented. If you look at the drawings in the linked manual it shows the back of the unit and it looks very similar to the ASW-750. There is no room for a port, and you could not fit one on the bottom of the box. The manual seems to be the same, except one say vented and the other says closed. The one that my friend has is closed. I think it is a type-o in the online manual, or maybe there was a version that had a port, but I don’t know where they would put it.
I tried to make an attachment, but, my OCR package only does tif.

Why would the 750 sound better than the CDM if they're both sealed? Except looks, they're virtually identical (in fact, the CDM was the more expensive of the 2). Have you compared them?Anthem AVM30, Sherbourn 5/1500A, B&W CDM 7NT/CNT/SNT, B&W ASW CDM (HT); McIntosh 4300V, B&W 1NT, ASW 675 (Stereo)- Bottom

The ASW 750 has better material In it's cabinet. I don't mean the matrix bracing part ,but the crossovers and structure is superior to the ASW CDM ,which by the way, the whole CDM series has been discontinued ,and ASW 750 is Not discontinued, and actually is the bread maker for the B&W series ,as most people cannot afford the top of the line ASW 855 ,which In my opinion are the best Subs I have ever heard ,and for that reason bought 2 of them for my 800 series set up I have.
Yes I compared the ASW 750, as I had th ASW 750 a couple of years ago, and auditioned it side by side with the ASW CDM and the ASW 750 sounded smoother and fuller than the CDM ,but then compare that to the ASW 855 and NOW you will hear day and night!!! By the way ,even though two Subs are sealed does not mean they won't sound different. The inside structure, bracing and wood finish inside the box including technical electronics and crossovers do change the sound on speakers including the D amps that comes with it whether itis 1000watts or not.
Hope that answered your question!!
Cheers!!- Bottom

dhoff01,
I hope your dreams of rolling in cash come true!!!!
When you do get that cash ,you'll have a smile from ear to ear when you listen to Music or HT with 2 ASW 855 subs!!!! I cry with happiness every time I turn my system on!!! Makes the world shake!!!!!! Smooth, full, tight and fast bass that keeps you wanting for more and more!!!
Bass can be addictive if they are well synergized between your Front, Rear and ceneter speakers!!! They work as a team, and that is what counts. Stereo Subs is the word!!!!
In the mean time enjoy your ASW CDM!!!!!!!!!! Have Fun!!!
Good Luck and Cheers!!!!- Bottom

The CDM or 750 sub will shake a good size room. Again, I listed to both speakers, can't tell the difference. If you have 2 of these speakers it would just be used for a very large room or to ballance the bass because of sub placement issues. Before I would upgrade to an 800 series sub, I would upgrade the L/R speakers. And if I was looking at a dramatic sub upgade I would look at a few other manufactuers and B&W.Last edited by B&W 700 Guy; 24 November 2006, 19:19 Friday.- Bottom

by ChrossAfter agreeing the main speakers with my wife, the only compromise were the new FPM’s from B&W. But this means no good bass while playing music or film.
Normally the PV1 fits the range…… but my wife’s comment: “He’s so ugly” :P .
Therefore I’m searching a B&W sub...-

by beden1I want to upgrade my sub woofer, and have an ASW-750 for my one set-up with 703's as the main speakers (have center channel but no surrounds). I like this sub as it seems to work well with both music and theater.
For my other home theater set-up (in another house), I wanted to upgrade...-

by TedGreetings B & W great-ones. As I have been in the process of switching my HT from Klipsch to a B & W CM7/CM-C based system, I've been wondering about also switching out my Velodyne SPL 1200 II for a B & W ASW 750.
My reasons for doing so are purely aesthetic. I love the...-

by Woo WoooooHas anyone traded in their ASW-750 for either the ASW-850 or ASW855?
Was it worth it? I'm not sure if I'm going to do it until I hear from someone that has done it. I know there are other subs out there that are cheaper and maybe better, so for all the SVS group etc....I justwant to know about...-
