    FPM for 2CH Music only

    Hello all,

A newbie question, any help appreciated.

I have a smallish room and a partner who wants me to keep the size of my new equipment down to a smallish size. So far I've listened to the 705s (which I loved), Sonus Faber Domus Concerino (also liked a lot, any comments on this would be appreciated too) and the ALR Classic 2 (liked a lot, but needed a sub to compliment it).

To keep the size of the speakers down I'm curious about the B&W FPM range (FPM 4 or 5). I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions about these speakers for music only. Are they ok without a sub?

secondly, haven't decided on an amp yet. probably would like to spend $AU 1200-1300, something like the NAD c372.

To give you an idea of the type of music that I listen to, nothing with too mcuh bass, lots of acoustic instruments. Jazz to Alternative, not too much rock.

any help opinions about FPMs for music would be greatly appreciated,

    thanks,

    Andrew

I have an FPM setup for both 2 channel stereo listening and home theater. They are great speakers for two channel. I run a Rotel RCD 1072 with a Rotel RMB 1077 amp and get great results. I use a PV1 sub which is a perfect match, and in my opinion the FPMs do need a sub.

there is no sound quality difference between the FPM 4s and 5s, the 6s arent better then the 4s and 5s, but can go a little lower with base (not much).

Here is a picture. Show your wife how nice the PV1 looks and perhaps she will reconsider letting you get one.

If you dont have to hang the speakers and cant get a sub I suggest the XT4s perhaps.

      Hi Vancouver,

thanks for the feedback and pictures.

I do like the look of the xts, unfortunately I don't think that they're available in Australia... the distributor hasn't yet replied to my email about availability.

does anyone have any opinions on how the FPMs compare to the 705s?

The 804S have a small footprint but are a quantum leap in sound. If you want B&W get the real deal. Besides they are so pretty no one will complain that they are a little bigger.

the 804s are also a quantum leap in price.... quite desirable though.

am now trying to decide between the 705 and a sonus faber concertino domus...

            B&W PV1 Setup
            by Nolan B
Is there anyone who owns a PV1 with FPMs? Since this sub was orginally made for the FPMs I was wondering what the best setting on the sub is as a default.

            Thanks

Just got FPM 4s for surounds
            by Nolan B
No one ever posts about the FPM series, so thought I would in case someone is considering them or is curious. I am using FPMs for a full HT setup and went from 601 S3 to get there.

I was using FPM 6s for my mains, a FPM 4 for the centre and had two 601s left from my last set up I was...

I currently have a full FPM set up with B&W PV1 sub powered by a rotel rsx 1067. I have to admit its a sweet sound system. As many of you know regardless of how good your system sounds, and with out even hearing something better you always think of ways to improve.

Moving to House and can't find a reason to upgrade from FPMs
            by Nolan B
Just when I thought I was done with the upgrade issue and built my dream system (for appartment use), I have decided to buy a house in the next 6 months to a year. I currently have B&W FPMs with a PV1 sub and love the look and sound of the system. I have to admit I havent auditioned the 700 or 800...

Currently I have my PV1 hooked up to a RSP 1068 via the Coax sub cable for home thearter use. I just bought a RCD 1072 and wish to hook it up via the analog cables to bypass the 1068 however it looks like I will get no LFE...
