Wiring a Home Cinema and Hifi System Together

I enjoyed making this diagram of how my system wires to the B&W's at the end of the road. I had it in another post less complex, but its all layed out for those of you thinking how to wire up.

      What about a tuner?

Or is it that you have no rack space left ?

Tuner comes in thru Itunes Radio from the computer Stations via Airport Express to the local Airtunes receiver next to the Hifi.

          Oh Dear!

If I had to wire that lot up - (and get it right) it would take me a month of Sundays! ! !

Wow!!! Thanks again for posting this comprehensive reference stereo & ht flow chart. It would be difficult to get a visual grip around how & why everything is connected together in the manner it is with just a word description or photo of your setup. But with this detailed schematic you have provided, it not only clearly shows how the individual components are connected, it also reveals the beautiful logic of a great design for stereo & ht integration. It can give real clarity to possible future upgrade considerations when one is weighing different components that may or may not fit well in the big picture.

Most of your components' power cords seem to be connected to the Shunyata Hydra line conditioner, but what are the power cords from the 2 amps (Krell Kav 3250 & Krell FPB 400 CX) connected to? Or are they connected directly to the wall outlet?

The 2 power amps go directly to the wall outlet which was wired to a 20 AMPs breaker. There are very few line conditioners which could support the fpb400cx. I saw one in Italy, but remain sceptical. I mean when that beast is running, consider the room heated.

First time I plugged it in, it blew the 10 amp fuse in the house, but then I had a dedicated wiring to the stereo area heavy duty wire and 20 amp fuses.

Note: I am not convinced (snake oil products) of many things about hifi materials ie: super expensive wiring, speaker, interconnects, or line conditioners, or mains plugs etc. I can't say that I can hear a difference with most of that stuff, not like changing a brand of Preamp for a different type of sound.

BUT I bought all excellent quality wiring, line conditioner etc because I want to be safe and its commonly accepted as part of the modern HIFI material.

The one thing I do believe in where I live in France is the Voltage line regulator by Furman, which keeps a constant 230V besides protecting against low or high voltage. PS Audio makes units that change AC to DC then to AC again pure 110V or 230V or whatever and I think this would be a good investment in any system.

                  misterdoggy,

Why did you change from pass to ML? What happened to the sound after the switch?

I haven't had it long so it will be first impressions. Less Boom Bam, and more smooth silky sound. The Pass Labs mid range was a bit stronger, but I love the sound of the 380S. SWEET....... I've played some Piano pieces, and Violins and orchestrations. I feel Piano is the most revealing instrument to hear HIFI as you have it all in one piano.

The Mark Levinson is more "articulate" not bright like Krell front end, nor too much "body" like the Pass Labs, but full of "detail, focus and you get a real feel of Timbre..... Naturalness.

                    I'm in Love.

Yeah Its ordered but haven't got it yet. Thought I would put it in. I was looking for something to make switching easier as changing the Avi inputs on the plasma is long and not efficient. So I get the other benifits as well upscaling image, coverting to hdmi etc

                                  misterdoggy,

you have motivated me to work on a layout diagram for our setup also

although our system is nowhere near as extravagent as yours i think a layout plan will help us map things out better and will give us a very good idea of exactly what cables we will need and if we are missing any gear to make our dream system complete.

                                  cheers,

                                    Julie,

I thought it would help some people figure things out. Its like anything, when I have too much on my table, I take a note pad and write down everything `I need to do and it all becomes clearer.

I have always relied on diagrams to figure out what was the best path and where something could be improved either with routing or what-ever.

Misterdoggy, I have the 320S (just bought a month ago) I have a Denon 5910 connected to it using the Denon DAC. Do you see any advantage going to a ML DAC? Also what graphics package do you use to do you chart?

                                        :T Hi Viper,

I use photoshop to cut the fotos to size, then paste them into Illustrator and save for the web in Illustrator which saves it as a jpg (same as Image ready)
When saving for the web you have to reduce the % until the file sizes drops below 100k to be able to post on this thread.

The Denon 5910 has the DVDO video processing the first DVD player to have one. That is a smaller version of the DVDO VP30 that I have coming so its got lots of stuff. It also has its own DAC's so you would have to send a digital output to use another DAC.

I would say that is a nice machine and although the sound will be nice, it shouldn't be a nice as a dedicated DAC that cost 4X more new than the entire 5910 ?

To use an external DAC you wouldn't use a DVD player (which has a DAC incorporated) but a dedicated Transport ie: Wadia, Ayre, Levison, etc.

You could have a separate line of components for CD Stereo Music with a transport, DAC coming in to the 320S.

You could also have the ML 37 CD player which could hook up with the 320S nicely. That's a nice machine !!! I love the 380S and can only imagine the 320S must be even nicer.

                                        I Love ML :T

I've been planning to get my home cinema setup started for quite some time, and now got the cash ready. I've been recommended the following setup by my local specialist (Hifi Corner) in Glasgow (UK):
                                          • Arcam AVR280 Receiver
                                          • 2 * B&W 683 (front left/right)
                                          • 1 * B&W HTM61

                                          Hello to everybody
I want to put together a stereo system containing 2 cabinets with a total of 8 drivers, each cabinet housing 4 drivers (2 woofers, 1 midrange, 1 tweeter).
Each cabinet will have 3 enclosures (2 separate ported enclosures for the woofers, 1 enclosure for midrange and...

I want to integrate my Home Cinema and HiFi.

                                          I currently own a CP800, CA2300 and B&W 802 Diamonds.

I am going to add a processor, run the CP800 in HT Bypass and either but a 3 channel power amp to do the centre and rears or sell the CA2300 and buy a CA5300.
