I've heard 805S's with McIntosh tubes a few times. Very sweet, especially with the new MCD201 CDP

I don't have much more details as I was more interested in the MCD201 with my speakers

Almost; it was the MA2275 integrated amp.

Yep, put you pratically have the C2200 tube pre and the MC275 tube amp in one chassis.

I have a MA6500 and I'm sure that the 805 would also sound very good with it. It costs alot less but it isn't tube

You could be surprised of the "tube sound" of most McIntosh solid-state amps.

Do you think McIntosh electronics might be a slight over kill for the 805S?
              Or not really?

Depends what you are looking for. Yes it might be slightly overkill, but the 805S is one of the best bookshelf speakers in the world.. isn't that over-kill too ? :T

With such great speakers, the electronics (source & amplification) will make a whole lot of a difference. When is it too much?? That's up to you

I've never heard any other tube amps than McIntosh so I can't help you more. Just funny that you didn't get any other answers since a tube amp on a 805 is a great choice IMO.

Yeah, that's what I thought too!
But, Karma did mention before that the 805S are not usually
fed top notch equipment, kinda unfortunate.

Not quite the 805's but I've heard the 804's with the ASL Hurricane amps and the sound was great. If you're a tube fan then I think that the 804's do a good job portraying that "magical" tube sound many people prefer. I use the Pass Labs Aleph 30 (Class A 30Watts, very tube-like sound) with mine and have no desire to ever change this combo.

                        b&w 803s and McIntosh MC275?
                        by specialized
Hi there.. I have read some reviews on MC275, and i start thinking that maybe it would be nice upgrade to my Rotel RB-1080.

So what do u think? Is McIntosh Tube MC275 worth considering for my 803s?
Would be a improvement coparing to RB-1080?

                        Any experience with 803s...

                        Tube Amp Resale Prices
                        by Redhawk
Looking on websites that sell used tube amplifiers such as the Mcintosh MC275 there seem to be a lot of people selling virtually new units for 1,500 under the new price.

Are people buying them and removing/replacing a specific piece and selling them on?

I have been thinking of purchasing a MC275 for two channel listening. Has anyone had experience with using the 1098 with the MC275?

                        Dear BW club members,
I am currently driving my 800d with Classe cp700 preamp and 2x cam 400 amps with good results. I am wondering though wether a classic Mcintosh tube preamp-amp combination would lead to even more satisfying sound. Also - would the proposed mc combination be strong enough...
