Made my choice, need to find a source in Toronto

    Hi,

Little new to this forum, moving to Canada Toronto (in the UK right now) and will be buying a new speaker setup (and amp... maybe)

Searching around on the net has not found me too much in the way of cheap supplier, I dont mind using a "box shifter" as I know what I want.

Audio One seems to come up a lot and they seem to have a sale on B&W right now. I will be out in Toronto in March and I may buy them then.

What is the story in Canada for speakers terminal, in the UK we use banana plugs to attach cables, but we have a Euro law that no longer lets us use them but speakers do have them you just need to remove a plastic bung and you then get a banana socket.

    My final list:

    Centre: LCR600 S3
    Front: DM603 S3
    Rear: DM601 S3

Is this a good config, has anyone else got this config?

This is a great setup for the price, we have the exact same thing here.

If you want to go surround, this setup is a great balance. Try to keep the center unit high enough (tweeters at the same level as the floorstanders if possible) and allow some time for break-in.

But you might want to add a ASW650 later

This is great news, I'm very interested in your views, thank you.

I was thinking about the SUB but I currently have a REL and I'm a big fan of thier SUBs ( http://www.rel.net/ ) so I may get one of them. But I'm not sure at this time.

        The REL will be fine.

Don't hesitate if you have more questions on the 600 series. I've also heard the CM series in 5.1 and in stereo, and the 700 series in stereo.

But the 600 series are great for 5.1, especially if you have can get the sub. In stereo the 603 s3 lacks some bass control, but it is a non-issue with a 12" REL or B&W sub.

Hey Raymate, welcome to the forum.

I have been to Audio-One and I would defanetly suggest them. They seem to be a nice group of people willing to give you a hand if needed, as well as willing to let you have the run of the store without bothering you. (I hate when sales people continually follow you around when you are looking around the store) They have a fair amout of equipment there and there prices seem to be resonable. I am not sure how they are to deal with when it comes to getting a little extra off the tagged price though as I haven't bought anything there...............yet! They also have a fair bit of used equipment there at resonable prices, which is a bonus for someone looking for a great deal.

The 600 setup you are looking at getting is nearly the setup I am using now. I have 603 S2 fronts, LCR6 S2 center, and 602 S1 rears. I have enjoyed this setup very much for 3 years now and I think you would be quite happy with that setup. However as with anything else there is always something better out there if you are willing (and able) to pay for it.

If you were willing to buy used, www.canuckaudiomart.com is a great site for finding quality used items local to Toronto. It has clasifieds for equipment in Canada only, and more then 50% of it is in Ontario!

I hope this helps you out, and welcome to Canada when ya get here

It's also helpful to hear your view on Audio One.

checkout http://www.audiogon.com for used deals at correct prices. sometimes when you are planning to buy a "b" new series of something you can buy a used "a" series for the same price

Brack Electronics has 2 stores. The one you reference is towards the north end of the city (Audio One is up north as well). The other Brack store is right downtown.

As far as I know, Brack & Audio One are the only B&W authorized stores in Toronto proper. After that you have to start driving a ways. The B&W site (bwspeakers.com) lists all the authorized outlets in the area.

As for connections, I personally use bananas on the speaker end and spades on the amp end. I don't think we have any laws that specifically forbid bananas but I do know that B&W comes with the plastic thing in the banana port. It's rather difficult to get it out but it is definitely removeable.

                      P.S. Welcome to Toronto!

I was wrong - Brentview Electronics is on the B&W list as well. I've been there many years ago and my impression was that it was a decent store.

Also, in addition to the stores already mentioned you might want to try the old standby of Bay Bloor Radio for amps, TVs etc. BBR sells Musical Fidelity and Bryston as well as regular consumer-grade stuff. Brack is very much a specialty store (high-end only) whereas Audio One is sort of in between but leaning towards the higher end.
