    12 inches...it does make a difference

Hi, I have been struggling with my setup for some time now. I have not been happy with the imaging, soundstage, and stereo separation. Unfortunately, due to room constraints I am not able to place the speakers where ever I want them. Initially, I had them set up about 5 ft apart with a sitting distance about 7 feet away from each speaker. As I said, I was not happy with this configuration at all.

To my wife's dismay I went ahead the moved the speakers further aparts by almost 12 inches (thanks to the members of this forum that offered me advice). I also toed in the speakers by about 10 degrees. The results were dramatic! It was as if I my 804S were constrained before. They "breathe" so much more now. The stereo separation is fantastic and the sound is full and dynamic. I could not believe how bottled up the sound was before I made this change! As long as my system stays in the living room it will never have the perfect conditions but for now this is the best I can do. I am very happy. I am still not getting the 3d soundstage I want but I think this is more my preamp than anything. I will be auditioning new ones to see if this helps!

Just 10 more years and my little daughters will be old enough for me to get my study back!!! Then I can set up my system optimally.

I'm sure you can understand why I don't consider pulling my speakers 6-8 feet off the front wall a waste of space? Heheh. :W

Sadly, audio reproduction is about compromises.

CD recommendations get 804S soundstage right?
      by tboooe
Hi all. I have fiddling with my 804S speaker position for the last week trying to achieve the wide and deep soundstage that people have described. Unfortunately, I cant seem to reproduce what other people have desribed. My soundstage does not extend back or wider than my physical speaker position....

This post is a bit lengthy, but I wanted to get all of my thoughts in. I recently purchased a Rotel 1077 amp. Below are my impressions after about 3 weeks. First, to give context to the 1077’s performance, I want to quickly review were I was and how I got to where I am now. I have B&W N804’s...

      Soundstage

Soundstage refers to the perceived spatial placement and localization of sound sources in a recording. It describes the three-dimensional presentation of audio, making it seem as if the sound is originating from specific locations within the listening environment, rather than coming directly from the loudspeakers. When a recording and playback system is capable of creating a convincing soundstage, listeners can experience a more immersive and realistic audio experience. The...

      Soundstage revisited
      by brucek
I just finished listening to Sgt. Pepper's. I think it's a treat to get away from the continuously repeated homogenous mixes of today and re-experience the soundstage differences of older recordings that the likes of George Martin created years ago when they had fun with 'stereo'.

      Most...
