    New CDM-1nt speakers... What now?

I did it… I’ve gotten my first set of B&W’s! For my first set I got a demo’d pair of cdm-1nt’s for fronts and an asw300 subwoofer to give a little more bottom…

Currently, I’m running them with my old amp and player… A Sony home theater receiver and a Sony DVD player… Not the best stuff, but its what I have to get started.

With that said, my goals are to have a home theater (5.1) and listening room (2.1). First I want to build the audio part. I’m on a budget so I’m buying used or demo’d equipment. I’d like to get some cdm-7’s or 9’s for fronts, use the cdm-1’s for rears, and the matching center channel. I also want a better receiver (integrated) and player (cd/dvd). Last thing I will purchase will be a TV for my new room. Right now I’m thinking Rotel receiver and player. With my income this is going to be a slow one at a time process. That in mind…Here’s my questions:

What next? What will give the most immediate satisfaction? Right now I’m thinking a player. I want a rotel dvd/cd player…or do I save for the cdm-7’s or 9’s??? Get the speakers going???? What about a receiver????

    What do you think?

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

My guess would be to get an integrated amp to use instead of the receiver. Get one that will let you plug your sub (by some kind of line-outs). A Rotel, Cambridge, Denon or other good DVD player would be the second next step if you ask me. It also depends on what kind of music you listen to and your music/movie ratio, but I'm pretty sure that a 2-channel receiver would help alot

As for an integrated 2ch amp for your system, try the Rotel RA-1062. For the price you will be surprised !

Unless your 1st priority is the 5.1 system (but that should only be if you listen to more movies than music).

Aven, if you do end up getting a pair of CDM9NT's, and you decide to go Rotel, then I recommend that you get an amp that can deliver 200 watts per channel to those speakers, i.e. RMB-1095 or RB-1080. Based on what others in this forum have said, the RMB-1077 would also be a good bet too.

If you end up with CDM7NT's then the recommended Rotel amps would be the RMB-1075 or RB-1070.

you are on a budget, so the RDM 1077 is not a likely option for you. You are thinking right buy choosing Rotel becuase your money will go the furthest with rotel when driving your speakers. Ask your dealer if he does trade ins, so you can slowly building as you go. If I were you and wanted to get some immediate sound quality I would start with a Rotel RSX 1055 or 1056. My next step would be to finish getting the speakers you want. My thirdt step would be o either change the RSX 1056 in for a processor and seperate amp. My third step would be a DVD/CD player. My guess would be that if you have a moderate income that will be about 2 years of upgrading. At that point the new DVD format will be out and you can then start investing in a DVD player.

What's the deal with CD player's used as transports?
            by nicholtl
From my understanding, CD players/multichangers can be used 1 of 2 ways.

            1) As a transport.

            2) As a player utilizing it's own internal DAC's.

As such, this basically means that by using digital interconnects (optical or coaxial) between the CD player...

Power for B&W 703 and CDM1NT in stereo mode
            by b&w fan
I had a pair of CDM1NT and just recently bought a pair of 703. I would like to have a two channel system using all 4 speakers. It would be quite simple: a receiver or separates amp + preamp plus a CD player. There is not a Rotel distributor in my location, so the option of auditioning Rotel equipment...

New center channel for a pair of old CDM7 SE's
            by kurtzp
At the time of my purchase of the CDM7 SE's in the 90's, I bought the CDMC SE center channel. I was never very satisfied with the center channel sound since it seemed a bit muffled to me and I would have to turn up the volume way too high for intelligible dialogue. In my new sound system setup, that...

Testing B&W with McIntosh & Marantz
            by audioqueso
I'm curious about a test I want to do. So I would like to get people's opinion about this test.

I have $4-5k budget that I have to improve my B&W Nautilus 805/HTM2 setup. I currently have a Marantz SR7002 AV receiver powering them.

I've been wanting to audition McIntosh...
