    802D versus N802 comparison

I just replaced my N802 with 802D's within nothing else changed. I'm running a Rotel 1095 which I plan to eventually change to a PS Audio GCC amp.

Basically there was instantaneous soundstage improvement, better highs, and MUCH better lows. I had just gotten done listening to all my usual test songs and the difference is just plain obvious. The sound isn't just different either, it's better.

    Blazar,

Enjoy - I too found the difference "night and day"... The 802 was very good, while the 802D is simply amazing...

Try a few different amps - the 802D is very revealing of the amps characteristics and it would be worth experimenting to find what works best for you...

Actually I think I shouldn't judge too soon about the 802d's. I say this because my room is a HORRENDOUS mess of standing waves and echos for which I need room treatments for. Until I move the 802N's out of the room I won't be able to judge the 802d for sure. The 802N's may be acting like a "bass trap" making the 802D's sound much better...

I know this sounds odd, but even my 802N sounded much better in my old apartment and then when I moved, my home theater room in my new house sounds like crap.

It could be that the 802d does better in this room in terms of bass response simply due to how bad my 802n was doing with this room.

The upper end of the frequency spectrum defintely sounds both smoother and less harsh than the 802n but there is defintely more audible detail. This effect I doubt is just some room effect. The diamonds are defintely better in this regard and should potentially be even better with a different amp or with some room treatments.

For the time being, my next purchase MUST be room treatments as these will make a far more impressive change to the sound than any amp or D/A converter.

I have already listened to these magnificent speakers at a variety of dealers, and the smallest possible dem rooms they had.

All they dems were fine no boom or overhang, living in London (UK) the size of our rooms are on the small size, my room is 4 X 4m, I can only put the 802D about...

First off let me say hello to eveyone! I am new to the website and to the audio world or better yet the Hi-Fi world. Nevertheless I have been stalking the idea of a serious upgrade in sterer equipment. So my first move I have opted for some 802D (2004-2009models) as they are in my opinion a work of...

The MIRACLE of room treatment, my experience
        by Blazar
I just swapped out a pair of 802N for B&W 802D speakers recently and did notice a significant improvement. I'm not sure if the 802D are just way better or that the 802N were just never good enough.

Besides the speaker change I knew I could improve my 20x24 room with vaulted ceilings...

I am currently using Proceed PAV+PDSD feeding Proceed Amplification for the center channel, using Mark Levinson 23.5 driving front channels, cheap amplifier driving the rear surrounds.

My current set-up are as follows: N803, HTM1 and SCM1. I had a Mirage BPS-400 sub that I sold recently.....

What would match 802D mains as surrounds better, 802N or 805s?

What would match sonically 802D mains as surrounds better, 802N or 805S (not 805n)?

(HTM2D center and JL Audio F113 sub, ssp-800, classe CA-5200)

First for movies and then for 5 channel stereo.

The room is fairly large and open.

        Also how close...
