    B&W Replacement parts *cry*

My new kitten just decided to bite the tweeter on my LCR60s3, and while I was able to pull the dents out with tape, I can't stand for having a crinkled looking tweeter.

Does anyone know what the best way is to go about sourcing replacement parts? I'm sure it'll probalby cost me an arm and a leg when in reality these crinkles have no effect on SQ, but I'm sure you all understand..

Totally understandable, I would be the same way. My cat has caused some serious damage three times now to various A/V equipment.

I would start with the dealer and see if he can get a replacement. Who knows, if you have a good relationship with them they might do it for free. I wouldnt count on that though. Next I would email B&W if the dealer cant help.

Yeah, I'm going to have to hit up another dealer here in the city. The place I bought my 603s from treated me like crap cuz I wasn't buying a pair of nautilus and 8 amps to power them.

Anyone happen to have an idea of how much one of these tweeters is going to run me? I'm assuming its probably going to be around $100. I figure I'll get it while I still can, then most likely keep it on a shelf until kitty grows up enough that he isn't at a risk of jacking it up again.

My cat used my old 703's for a scratching post. I left the protection covers on so only the fabric got some pulls. I think its would be wise with a cat in the house to keep covers on. Especially if you've got 802D's. MeeeeOOOooooooouch !!!!! :yeah:

I've had it happen to my LCR600 when I had it, although it's under warranty, the part still cost me about $90. I figure it'd be the same for the LCR60, since it uses the same tweeter.

Hm, good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

Kitty made another pass at the speaker last night (this time while it was on top of the tv). He managed to go spread eagle and get both paws into the %#@%ING cones. I screamed in time and i got off with only a minor knick in one of the baffles.

Sheesh. Thanks for the heads up though, that makes me feel better.

I am having a hell of a time getting another rubber "grommet" for my lcr60 (the female grommet), i tore one when i first got the speaker, and the last dealer i went to looked at me like i had 2 heads. I think basically they were too lazy to call up b&w and get me a new one.

I actually had a moment last night where I said "hmm, maybe I shouldn't have such nice speakers if I'm going to have pets".

I still feel guilty for not rushing right out and getting my baby fixed

              Kyle and others here.

Why don't you get rid of the cats? - much easier and cheaper than replacing parts on the speakers.

Well, there are things that are more important to me than money, in this case the love of companion animals. Only an animal lover could understand

My kitten only attacked my speaker because he was curious and didn't know any better not because he is some sort of devil cat

no....i was mad at my dog when he dented the tweeter on my LCR600, but i love him too much to get rid of him. I paid to get the tweeter replaced, and use the upgrade program to trade it for a Rotel 1075 amp. Bought a used HTM7 and call it that. The tweeter cover comes in handy.

Also watch out for toddlers. My 3 yr old nephew (bless 'im!) pushed in all the cones on my last speakers, tweeter (he really had to reach!), mid and bass cone. I used a piece of semi-sticky resin to pull them out, and the sound quality was almost unaffected. Had to leave the covers on for the rest of the life of the speakers, however, as I couldn't look...

Did you end up getting those rubber "grommet" things??? I've got 2 of them on my 602's that need replacing.. the inner part is still there, but the outer ring part has been torn off... just from taking off and replacing the covers. i want 12 new ones now to replace them all... so did you have any luck??

Kirium, call B&W technical support and tell them what you need. They will send those speaker grill connectors to you free of charge and shipping. They are covered under your warrantee.

Yes. B&W's first response is to request that you seek assistance from a dealer, that's what they are for. However, if the dealer is ill equipped to assist, B&W has an obligation to honor their warrantee in direct correspondence and they will if you explain to them what you need and why. Just ask nicely.

I recently took a 12-year old DM610i into B&W New Zealand to fix a broken driver and they had a new driver on the shelf ready to go (at 1993 pricing I reckon!). I picked my repaired speaker up the next day. After that experience I am very impressed with B&W's spare parts policy and service.... and New Zealand ain't exactly at the centre of the known universe.

Thanks RebelMan. I didn't really think of the warranty. I don't like my chances with my local dealer tho. I might have to try the Aus distributor.

Tell your dealer you need a tweeter diaphram for a LCR60, it shouldn't run your more than $50 bux for the part if you install it yourself. I had to buy one for my 602's when I had them and thats what my dealer charged me for the part.

Ah thanks Dan. I still haven't gotten around to doing this, but I was thinking the other day that I hoped it would only have to be a diaphram.

For the record, I've resorted to using the speaker grilles, which are working ok aside from the fact that the cat probably likes to scratch them MORE now. I can live with pulls in the grilles over destroyed speakers however.

there just happens to be a set of replacement Tweeter diaphrams for 600 series 2 on ebay right now. I am not sure if they will work for the series 3 speakers or not but it is worth looking in to as you could save yourself some cash if they are the same units.
