I've had a pair of 805s for about a month. I have a Pioneer Elite 56TXi receiver. I was on the verge of buying a Rotel AMP and Preamp, but after spending several hours moving 805s around a dealers show room, and connecting them to every Rotel he had, I asked if we could hook them up to the Pioneer Elite. I think the dealer was as surprised as I was. The Pioneer just seemed warmer with just enough edge taken off to sway me in the Pioneer direction. I bought the Pioneer. After a month of listening I'm looking for A sub and would love recomendations from current 805 owners. My room is fairly small 19ft X 12ft my surrounds are ceiling mounted B&W ccm65s and my center is a CDM and my disc player is a Pioneer Elite DV59AVi. My main concern is music more than Theater.
Another question: Sometimes I find myself listening to equipment and not the music ( I know I know it's a sickness ) and most of the time the 805s are spectacular, but every once in awhile I just don't feel as if I'm getting a full frequency range. The 805s are biamped using the Pioneers back channels. A few days ago, while in one of my equipment listening relapses, I disconnected the the low frequency cables from my speakers so I could hear the high end alone. I was shocked that the high end alone was almost non existent and at such a minimal volume that I couldn't imagine that it would add anything when combined with the low range. At first I thought the 805s were damaged, but when I replaced the 805s with my old CDMs, the results were the same. Am I missing something? Is this not a fair test of the Nautilus tweeters? Has anyone else tried this?
