    805 tweeters?

I've had a pair of 805s for about a month. I have a Pioneer Elite 56TXi receiver. I was on the verge of buying a Rotel AMP and Preamp, but after spending several hours moving 805s around a dealers show room, and connecting them to every Rotel he had, I asked if we could hook them up to the Pioneer Elite. I think the dealer was as surprised as I was. The Pioneer just seemed warmer with just enough edge taken off to sway me in the Pioneer direction. I bought the Pioneer. After a month of listening I'm looking for A sub and would love recomendations from current 805 owners. My room is fairly small 19ft X 12ft my surrounds are ceiling mounted B&W ccm65s and my center is a CDM and my disc player is a Pioneer Elite DV59AVi. My main concern is music more than Theater.

Another question: Sometimes I find myself listening to equipment and not the music ( I know I know it's a sickness ) and most of the time the 805s are spectacular, but every once in awhile I just don't feel as if I'm getting a full frequency range. The 805s are biamped using the Pioneers back channels. A few days ago, while in one of my equipment listening relapses, I disconnected the the low frequency cables from my speakers so I could hear the high end alone. I was shocked that the high end alone was almost non existent and at such a minimal volume that I couldn't imagine that it would add anything when combined with the low range. At first I thought the 805s were damaged, but when I replaced the 805s with my old CDMs, the results were the same. Am I missing something? Is this not a fair test of the Nautilus tweeters? Has anyone else tried this?

I am not actually an 805 owner, although I intended to be one. I had auditioned the 805, bought the HTM2, and was planning on the buying the 805s when I came upon a set of 804s which I bought instead. I also got a Velodyne SPL-8 sub, which I had planned to go with the 805/HTM2 set. I really like the sub. I'd recommend Velodyne. Other folks here will probably recommend other subs.

I got the 804 because I was looking for a little bit fuller sound from the 3-way speaker. The 805 is a two-way, and it's not surprising that the tweeter seems to be so "non-existent". The device is small, and it doesn't "push much power". But, try the speaker the other way around, with only the woofer playing, and you will immediately "see" what the tweeter adds to the full spectrum by virtue of its absence in that case.

I am using the B&W ASW850 with the 805's and they work really well, better than any sub that I have ever used. If you have a good dealer they will let you take home different subs to audition before you buy.

I took my 805s back today and for an extra 1000 bucks bit the bullet and traded up to the 804s. I figured I'd take advantage of the close out on the current 800 line. My dealer had one pair left and when I called him he quoted me a price of 3400 less the 1800 I paid for the 805s. When I told him that Myer-Emco, the other B&W dealer in the Washington area, was selling thier last 804s for 2800, he made a call and called me back within 5 minutes and without blinking said OK. The 804s definitely have more range and are much much fuller. The 805s seemed very directional and at time almost piercing while the 804s seem to fill the room. While the increase in bass is substantial, they still seem as if they could benefit from a sub. I have also been looking at the Velodynes. If you were going to purchase again would you consider the SPL 10 or do you feel the 8 is fine. For music the 804s certainly don't seem to need any help. Do you use the SPL 8 for both music and theater?

          velodyne sub with N804

I bought the velodyne spl 8 as a close-out item discounted 42 percent. It was last year's model. I really did not consider the 10 or 12. If funds were not limited, I'd gladly consider the SPL 10 or 12, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I find the spl 8 more than adequate for music, and for theater it is quite good and much better than the N804. The SPL series of Velodyne is top notch, imho, and quite frankly I decided on the higher-end smaller diameter model rather than considering a less-expensive larger speaker. I was happy to find the SPL 8 discounted and bought it on the spot. I have considered that maybe for home theater that two subs would give much more feel to the sound effects, but I'm not sure that bigger is necessary or better in that case either. Again, if funds were not limited... :B

Ah yes, if funds were not limited, and line drawing does tend to become an art form. I actually woke up in the middle of the night a few nights ago with anxiety regarding the extra 1000 for the 804s. The fact that I bought them in two steps is undoubtably the single most important factor in the purchase. Somehow $1000 plus my 805s seems like way less money than $2800......... Herb

Ok, for starters, I wasn't really in the market for this piece when I bought it. I just went harmlessly to a private sale at a local A/V store, NOW Audio Video. While browsing at the store, I happened to see the DV-07, and it was a new product. The beauty of it, with the blue light in it, was...

              Hello Everyone,
I have a Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD Blu Ray player and the Blu-Ray portion of it is not working. It still plays audio CDs and regular DVDs. The reason why I love this machine is that it has RCA audio outs for my system so I know I am getting the best possible audio (meaning I don't...

I understand that I may get a biased answer on this, considering the forum, but I have a question.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on my first setup and I'm trying to decide on which Surround Receiver to go with. Has anyone been able to compare these two units side by side. ...
