Sound Anchor stands for Nautilus 802
Anyone who has read my thread from a few weeks ago will remember me asking if anyone had Sound Anchor stands for the N802's and what their impressions were. Unfortunately, no one who read my thread had this set up as no one responded. So I went a head and purchased them blindly. Not my usual style as the stands are $500 and spikes from B&W were $200. My 802's were purchased from my dealer after they had been returned from a custom install who apparently went bankrupt. So believe it or not, I cannot be considered the original owner and thus had to pay for the spikes. All 8 would have cost $425. They are however much better quality than the casters and use dissimilar metals for the base and spike. Anyway, my intention in this thread is to let you know that I am pleased with the result!! The stands are beautiful and the build quality is superb. Bass is tighter and more defined and the new listening postion opens up the mids. It seems the highs are now more laid back rather than forward(a common minor compaint of the 802,801,800). The speakers are really anchored(no pun intended) to the floor now. The sound seems more articulate. I realise many people hear want they want to hear after making an investment, but this was a very definite improvement in sound quality from the bass to the treble. Kind of like your car right after a tune up. I'm really impressed and just wanted to let you all know that if you have 5 or 6 hundred dollars of play money- it is a wise investment!!!

I'm glad you had a good experience with the SA's. I got some for my N804's. I had the same reaction you did. Sometimes upgrades or tweaks are hard to hear/see. This one was easy. Definite improvement.

I am waiting delivery for stands for my 703's.
I originally explored them because my downstairs neighbor was complaining about sound coming through.
I am told that it should reduce sound by up to 20db through the floor and improve the quality of the sound that I hear.
I am happy to hear you are happy.
I really didnt know what to expect.
I should receive them in approix 2 -3 weeks.

I received my sound anchors for my 703's. I cant be sure if less sound is getting to may neighbors but I can tell you that sound quality is improved.
That was not my original reason for getting them but the improvement is welcome. The bass is more defined and the whole range seems more articulate.MitchellComment

They raise the speakers about 5 inches. Yes they do custom work, but it is not cheap. Their work is top-notch, very professional.:B It's all about the MUSIC!!!Comment

I forget his name but I had spent quite a bit of time talking to the owner of Sound Anchors about various topics and I found him to be very knowlegable and rational about audio.
We discussed everything from cables to break-in to how his product actually works and I found him fascinating.MitchellComment

My dealer says that B&W provides anchors for its speakers. Would they be sufficient or do I need to look elsewhere?Comment

For your 802's B&W provide either the castors or the optional spikes.
The castors are good for WAF as they let here clean around the speakers, but the spikes do make a noticeable difference particularly on carpet.
I dont know of any sound anchors provided by B&W??Comment

My mistake. The dealer will provide spikes. I have a ceramic tile floor. I'll have to have something for the spikes to sit on. Will spikes be as good as anchors?Comment

Spikes are optimal. Just put a coin under them to protect your floor. And B&W does not sell any kind of stand for the 802. Just bear in mind that once you remove the casters you had better make sure that is exactly where you want your 802's as moving them is almost impossible and potentially very dangerous to you and the speaker!!!:B It's all about the MUSIC!!!Comment

I just bought a demo pair of N802s...I did not recieve any spikes, should I have?
How do the the B&W spikes work in comparison to the sound anchors. Would I have to remove the casters or do the spkes work in conjuction with the rollers?Comment

No, the 802's do not come with the spikes. Since you are the original owner, have your dealer order them for you. They are free to the first owner. Otherwise, believe it or not, they cost over $400 if you are a second hand owner. They are fantastic quality. Come in two pieces with a set of allen and hex keys with a tightening rod.
The spikes work well at tightening the bass, but not as good as the stands. Anything is better than the casters for reducing vibration. The stands come filled with SoundAnchors proprietary filling(they weigh 25lbs. a piece!). Bob from SoundAnchors says that in addition to mass loading the speaker and reducing vibration, the 5 inches of elevation place you better in line with the FST axis, which is better to time align the sound from the tweeter & FST. I think they make a helluva improvement for $500. You can use the stands with the casters, but this is not the preferred setup. And no, you have to use all 4 casters per speaker without the stands, but only the front two spikes are needed if you use the SoundAnchors. The rear of the speaker rests on a steel bridge. You could even leave the casters on because they just hang in the air, or take them off and leave the back empty.:B It's all about the MUSIC!!!Comment

Now that I have decided on the final resting spot for my 802Ds, I am going to remove the roller glides and put them on the spikes. I am also thinking about getting some speaker stands from Sound Anchors to put them on. But, before I do that, I was wondering if anyone has put their 802Ds on the spikes... -

For those that have these, can you tell me the difference between the speakers on spikes on carpet/pad and the speaker on the sound anchor stands that sit on carpet/pad? Does the stands have spikes that go through the carpet?
