I debating whether or not to put my 705s up for sale and replace them with either 805s or better yet, 804s. What's the going rate for used 705s?
705 with stands, possibly up for sale!

The speakers are black.
Michigan, USA
The stands are the FS700 in black as well.
I have all the original boxes (for the speakers). I do not believe I have the boxes for the stands.
At this point, I'm just curious what the going rate is...haven't decided what I want to do. I've decided if I do replace them, I will have to replace them with 804s as to me they are a much better buy than the 805s with matching stands.- Bottom

I demo-ed the 705 against the 805 a while back. Eventually I decided to opt for the 705s. For me, the small difference in performance was simply not worth the extra cash... (Remember that the 705s are a lot newer than the 805s. The difference was more obvious, and probably even worth an upgrade, back in the time of the CDM 1NT)Originally posted by junior77blueI debating whether or not to put my 705s up for sale and replace them with either 805s or better yet, 804s. Now for an upgrade, I would certainly not replace your 705s with a pair of 805s! In doing so, the original price difference would only increase! (unless offcourse you can find yourself a coule of used 805s and possibly bring down the price difference...)
If you do want to upgrade (and (temporarily) squash the upgraditis-bug
), get yourself a pair of floorstanders. Off course the 804s would be a fine choice indeed, especially since you're probably able to get them for a very reasonable price now that the new 800 serie is introduced.
However, do me a favour and put them up against the 703s...I'm very curious what your findings will be...

If I do replace them, it would be with 804n's. I do not want to spend the money on bookshelf speakers w/stands again.
I did demo the 703s vs. 804s and I found the 804 to have much better imaging and much smoother sounding overall. Plus, the dealer demos were cheaper than 'new' 703s.- Bottom

I did not expect the 804s to sound worse that the 703. I'm just curious if the difference in performance between the two would justify the difference in price. Especially since, for me that is, this didn't seem to be the case with the 705 vs 805.Originally posted by junior77blueI did demo the 703s vs. 804s and I found the 804 to have much better imaging and much smoother sounding overall. Now since you can get a hold of a pair of 804s for less than the price for a pair of 703, and you clearly prefered the 804s, it is off course an obvious choice... I'd say go for it!
btw: haven't used 804s always been cheaper than new 703s..?Marantz SR7005, UD5007; B&W SCMS, Nautilus SCM1; Velodyne SPL-1200R- Bottom

Well, comparing sale priced 'new' 703s vs. used audiogon or ebay about the same price ~$2500 USD. But, with audiogon or ebay...hard to inspect for damage, and cannot 'hear' them as well. Not to mention shipping costs and dealing with FedEx or UPS...the NIGHTMARES!! I'm really not big into buying 'new' speakers since they are mechanical in nature. I guess as long as they weren't abused I should be ok, but hard to tell if they were or not. Kinda like buying a used car...never know what you get...its definately a gamble...hopefully it works out.
But, with full 'new' warranty, new grills, local pickup...hard for me to pass up, little bit earlier than I had planned..but oh well.- Bottom

by alpinacan anyone recommend some really minimalistic contemporary looking stands to hold these speakers. been looking at the nexus ones but that are still too bulky for our tastes.
cheers,

by ref3706Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to hi-fi. I can't seem to get any bass from my 705s. The bass is rather soft. I'm not expect deep sounding bass from the 705s, but rather tight and firm bass. I'm using the system purely to listen to music, not HT.

by hired goonG'day,
So I went to a the local B&W dealer tonight, and performed some serious auditions on the 805, mainly testing out the lower end. It's good, better than I thought, but not quite perfect. However, I reckon the imaging, detail, and openness of the 805s more than compensate for...-

by junior77blueI have an older pair of B&W P6 speakers....purchased them new approximately in ~1997. They have been used in numerous applications, HT & stereo.
After I purchased my 705's...the P6s just sound DEAD. Midrange and tweeters sound lifeless. I had the tweeters replaced, but that didn't...-
