    Excel W22EX response spike

    Hi all.

How do I take care of the 5kHz response spike of the W22? I have tried searching google for notch filter, LCR, etc, etc, but can't really get anything solid. What I am really looking for is some kind of formula that will give me the values of the components I need for this.

Also, what impact will the other crossover components have on the notch filter if these were to be changed?

I am not sure if this makes any difference, but I am leaning towards 2nd order LR filter for this driver.

    Thanks,
    Jim.

EDIT: Sorry, I am talking about the seas W22EX001 magnesium cone driver.

A notch consisting of a coil, capicitor and resistor will do the trick: LCR 0.15 mH - 7.2 uF - 5,6 ohm. The notch is @ 4800 Hz ( Q= 0.8 ) Calculated by lspCAD for the real measured impedance of the W22. It is important to get these exact values, so you have to compose the 7.2 uF capicitor from smaller ones.

This would be LCR connected in series to each other and across the driver's terminals?

It is still a voltage devider, so the depth of the notch would depend on the impedance of the series elements of the low pass section before the LCR.

It's a parallel notch directly at the woofer, so you're right the series elements before the LCR will influence the working of it.

notch filter depth / W22 breakup
          by charliemouse
          Hello,
Just wondering if anyone can suggest how deep to make a parallel notch filter (i.e. L,C&R in parallel with each other, in series between crossover and driver driver).

As I understand it, the L&C of an LCR effects the frequencies targeted, and the 'R' of an LCR effects...

I've been satisfied with my Phoenix system for quite some time now, but I've always been confident that the W22 is a better driver than the 8554. So 6 month ago I got the opportunity to buy four W22's at a very good price. I also bought two Dayton RS28A to take over from the 9700. I think both drivers...

          Actual T/S data for W22EX and W15CY?
          by Jed
How close are the published specs for these drivers? Does anyone have actual measured data he/she can share? I'm working with someone on a simulation for RS28a, W15CY, and W22EX 3-way. We want to see how compatible the drivers are as a system. I've heard W22 is really 88DB, not 90?

          Is Shielding a W22 Possible?
          by jquin
          Hi All
I am looking at using W22 in my HT system but I believe that they don't have a shielded version right?
Well with the advent of LCD TV shielding in becoming less relevant but for the time being it is a problem for me.
Anyhow what's the best way to shield a speaker?

          Seas W22 3-way Question
          by Brian Walter
Seeing as how quite of few people are saying that the midrange of the Seas Excel W22 is pretty much tops, what would you recomend using for an upper midrange, if you wanted to use a ribbon tweeter? A lot of the designs around here are using really low crossover points which limits you considerably in...
