So, this is a cable tv card for a PC, yeah? Sounds interesting for those that want their computer to double duty as a standard TV. not me mind ya.

      Interesting info............

HD through my existing cable with a FireWire interface, that would be sweet. Beats using an HD 'dish' or OTA feed as far as I'm concerned. I really got tired of cleaning the snow off my old DirectPC system dish.............

No Lex. The idea is your TV will have this slot in it. Coax goes to a box with one input (coax from your cable co) and one output into your TV (firewire). The CARD tells your TV which cable channels it can and can't decode. The cable box is dumb, needs no remote or anything, basically it just converts the signal from coax to 1394 (firewire).

You want to watch HBO-HD? Your tune your TV (using it's OWN tuner) to that channel. The dumb box is told the card plugged into your TV's slot. You paid for that channel? Fine here it comes. And ideally with a firewire output on your TV also to go to your Tivo-what-have-you.

No PC involved or intended to be involved, this is for the mass market crowd.

Though apparently ATI was working with both Shaw and Rogers Cable here in Canada regarding a All-In-Wonder video card that would do the same thing for HTPC's :P

Direct TV dish as HD OTA antenna?
            by ssv
            Hi,

I JUST got my 42" plasma flat panel HD tv (Magnavox 42FM230A), mounted on the wall, looks great with DVDs. According to Antennaweb.org I'm about 21 miles from my local HD stations transmitters. The previous owners of this house had a DirectTV dish and LEFT it mounted on...

VOOM! More HDTV is coming October 15, 2003
            by Sonnie Parker
The new satellite company VOOM will be offering it's new service on October 15th. I've been following this and it could get really interesting. Now that I have had a taste of HDTV through Dish Network I want more.

For $749 up front and $39.90 per month VOOM offers a receiver, dish, OTA...

            CableCard for the masses!
            by JustinGN
Found this during my normal surfing the other day:

EngadgetHD actually posted a guide for getting it all setup and working, and it seems that the DIY community now (unofficially) has CableCard support! Fantastic news for those of us in the states that want to record that...

            Tivo and OTA... please help!
            by ajpoe
I live in Dayton, OH. I am having and issue with my OTA broadcasts. For FOX, my HD Receiver/Tivo (HR10-250) is showing the programming information on 45-1 with no pic/sound. The picture and sound for FOX is being broadcast on channel 30-1 as well but 30-1 has no programming info and just says Regular...

            DirecTV vs. Dish Network
            by Chris D
Well, as I mentioned in the other thread, I'm about to sign up for some sort of Satellite TV service. I've had DirecTV in the past, but since I moved and don't have service in my new house yet, I'm willing to consider Dish Network, and hopefully leverage the two companies against each other in a bidding...
