    IMAX Projector bulb

I went to an IMAX theater over the weekend, and they had a used projector bulb for sale. I thought the specs were interesting:
    • Xenon high pressure bulb
    • 400 Amps
    • 37.5 volt
    • 15KW Input power
    • 1000 hour life
    • Anode and cathode water-cooled
    • Glass body air-cooled
    • New price: 6300 euro's
    • Used for 50 euro's

Wow, wonder if that's what they use on the current imax projectors. It sure is beautiful looking, would be nice to put on display in someone's HT!

Wow. That thing is probably as bright as the sun when it's lit up. I bet the transformer/ballast that drives that thing is the size of a room.

How large is it physically? There's nothing in the pic to judge the size of it. Depending on its size and weight, it would make a neat lamp base (for a more sedate bulb).

I'm guessing that's the bulb that IMAX theater uses, and they're selling off one that's at end of life.

It's about 18 inch's end to end, the electrodes are about 2 inch.

I did some googling and found:
        • The lamp has a light output of approximately 600,000 lumens.
        • It is so bright that it can be seen with the naked eye from the moon!
        • If a large log were held in front of the light beam, it would spontaneously combust.

That's awesome, dude. I 'd buy that thing, just because. Hey, maybe hook that up to my current projector.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
