    recent amazon purchase

I purchased the Friends blu-ray set, once it finally went down $50.00 from the original price. Still pricey, but 150 is better than 180 or 200, the last 2 prices. There are 3 sit-coms I would buy as a blu-ray set. Friends, Frazier, and Seinfeld. My 3 all time favorite sit-coms. I now have one of three on BD. I have most of Seinfeld, and all of Frazier on 480p. I am recording a bunch of Seinfeld's on my new DVR. Better than nothing. Frazier, not sure if it will ever go BD or not. I know it's marginally popular in reruns now. But I'd still be a buyer. I'll keep hoping for my other two sets. I also have all of Big Bang theory on BD, but it's not as much a favorite as those other three show, but still good. though writing of the show has went downhill this year so far.

I first bought Friends and Pretty Woman on blu-ray, a bargain at like 7 or 8 bucks. Quality is better than 480p version, but not quality of today's films. The next day, on a weekend, I decided to pick up some other value priced blu-rays. A lot of Julia, and some Tom Cruise, All in all, about 5 or 6 other DVDs.

Amazon actually merged my two orders for shipping purposes. I thought that was pretty cool. They also did a better job getting them to me promptly than my last order. I ordered Sat and Sunday, and received by Thurs or Friday. I was happy with that turn-around. Heck of an entertainment box of goodies for Christmas!

You can truthfully say this is a golden age for home entertainment, though I think we've become blasé about quality and performance that would have had us drooling with amazement in the 90's!

I don't guess I know about House and Bones other than hearing of them in passing. More so House than bones. I can't venture out to to many more shows, or I won't get anything done but watching. lol.

I wouldn't mind picking up the first season of Homeland, since I didn't get hooked until season 2.

I may go for it yet, Amazon had it at a pretty good price.

I try to avoid some shows that have been around for awhile just so I don't get sucked in. Good examples for me would be "Sons of Anarchy" and "The Wire". I'd love to watch them but at this point it's probably just not worth it. Many other shows out there too...but it's just impossible to keep up with all of them without becoming a super couch potato!

I had the complete series of "Battlestar Galactica" on BD, on my Amazon wish list. In-laws bought it for me for my birthday. Might start watching them here during holiday time off.

The Wire is worth an exception. I think it is the best television show ever made (at least that I've ever seen, and I've watched a lot of TV in my life).

I really might just have to pick up the first season sometime...*sigh*

They're all great but if you MUST only watch one, the first one is the one to watch.

With local retailers hardly stocking anything of interest anymore, and certainly not at reasonable prices even on "sale", we're dependent on the online retailers such as Amazon or Deep Discount to get the good stuff. However, shipping is still the wild card in the customer experience. (The big box stores will ship to the store for pickup there at no extra charge, but you still pay their high asking price for the product itself.)

To balance their books (after treating you so well), on my latest order, Amazon charged me for Two Day Shipping and then sent it UPS Ground with a four day delivery schedule. At least they kept it with UPS instead of US Postal (dis)Service so there'd be a chance I'd actually get it without having to put a trace on it.

What you DON'T say may be held against you...

Burke contact them and they should give you a refund since it didn't arrive anywhere near 2 days and wasn't shipped a 2 day service. I have Amazon Prime and love it, it never takes more then 2 days for me to get anything.

I wish we would get Seinfeld on Blu Ray. I have 141 episodes recorded on my 1 terrabyte DVR drive. lol.

it's HD like quality, I do not know what their transfer deal is on this, it looks like at least 1080i anyway.

                          by Lex
Season one is listed on BD site, but it doesn't have a release date. I don't know if this is a placeholder, or not though. Well, maybe it will happen. But I want to see the entire series as a box set, if they introduce it, that's what we need for this set and Frasier. To me Friends, Seinfeld and...

So we discussed a little in the main thread but I figured it deserved its own thread, considering it's going to be a long drawn out release schedule. I picked up the three episode preview:

                          by scarpi
I recently purchased a Sony S350 bluray player from Amazon for $199. But it won't be shipped until Dec 16th. It requires that I purchase an external USB flash drive for memory. I bought a Sony 4GB microvault click flash drive and I am now wondering if it will fit into the recessed USB slot in the back...

I read an interesting review on this from HiDef reviews. They made very persuading arguments that this is a must own, but at the $84.xx retail pricetag($51.xx amazon), I'm not certain there is any movie worth owning. I must admit I could not wait for it's release, but I just can't get over the price....
