    R.I.P. Dave Brubeck

Dave Brubeck is and will always be one of my favorite Jazz Musicians. It's extremely sad to see someone like him leave us... but atleast there still lots of music to still enjoy!

His Time Out album is still one of my best sounding pieces that I have to listen to. Might have to listen to the whole thing tonight.

When thinking about Dave Brubeck, you can't help but also consider time, and not just how much of it fans received from the prolific jazz pianist up to his death Wednesday at age 91.
    Digital Audio makes me Happy.

Although I have never been a fan of his particular Jazz style, he was an immensely talented musician who introduced a different type of jazz to a completely new generation of music lovers.

    RIP, Mr. Brubeck

Another great loss, quite a contributor to the jazz world!

I can think of no other individual who did more to bring Jazz into the mainstream lexicon of modern culture. Before Dave, Jazz always seemed to have a dark, smoky, bad side-of-town connotation.

Dave made Jazz something cool & hip to a broad cross section of society, & because of that, helped to legitimize Jazz as the true, uniquely American art form it truly is.

        Thank you, Dave.

Now, Take Five, my dear friend.

This is very sad to hear! One of my favorites for sure and his albums always had amazing sound quality!

            Dave made a great contribution.

Tonight I'll be playing this one to honour him: Jazz Icons: Dave Brubeck Live in '64 & '66 (2007)

I've watched it once before and it will be fun.

Yes, it's a pretty good DVD, particularly the first half which is the 1964 performance in Belgium. It's more intimate and vibrant. It's my only Brubeck DVD so I don't know if it's the best one available. The picture quality and camera work are good on both concerts. Black and white of course. There are lots of shots of Brubeck's hands when soloing, which I think is important. He has very long fingers. Brubeck does not try to steal the show. If anything his sax player Paul Desmond is the star with more solo time than Brubeck. He's an amazing sax player. The sound quality is just fine on both concerts. I ran the disc through my MediaInfo tool and the audio is 2-channel PCM 1536 Kbps 48 KHz.

A few years ago, discussions here in the Guide led to me buying "Take Five", and then since I really liked it, re-buying the entire Take Five series (I think there's like 4 discs). Very enjoyable.

                  RIP.

Picked this up a few days ago. It is the first of three in a collection from Time Life. I must say, I am surprised. The disc is very well mastered. It maybe one of the best compilatation disc ever for it's sonic presence.

The 2 cd set has a slew of artist from Duke Ellington to Sarah...

I'm looking for the best web sites that review past and current jazz recordings. I figured that my fellow B&W owners would be very on the ball when it comes to this topic. Of course sites that also review sound quality aspects...
