    Hum from inside CD player

Hi folks.....Not a big issue because the 'hum' does not come out of the speakers as sound but my Marantz CD-67SE has a very audible 'hum' to it when I'm near it changing CD's. Any idea why it's 'humming'??.

Maybe it is a catchy tune.
    Do you recognize it? :W

Seriously, is this something you just noticed?
You sure it has not been making this sound all along?
Maybe the transport/motor? Maybe the power supply?
    Hard to tell from here.

Does it happen when there's a CD in it vs. no CD? If there is and it only happens when a CD is in it then it's the motor spinning the CD I would think. Other than that... the only other "motor" that would make a sound is for the tray opening and closing. Can't really think of anything else that would cause that.

If it's a constant hum even when it isn't spinning a disc, it's probably the transformer in the power supply. This is common and doesn't indicate a problem with the unit, unless it's really loud.

I believe you are correct Kevin. It's most certainly the power supply/ transformer. It's happens all the time whether it's spinning a disc or not. Works great, no change in performance. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether it's always done this. This player is quite old (1998). :E

Skynet is becoming self aware. The sound is a beacon sound to wake up all the other machines in the theater, soon wireless connection is established, and connections with other theaters worldwide will be established, as Skynet continues to spread the virus.

Seriously, about all said here is about what there is to know.

Man that means that the RIAA is going to be suing Skynet because then all the CDPs will start sharing the music and the RIAA wants their cut! :P

madmac, I suspect that it's the Harakat Ul-Mujahideen (HUM), a Pakistan-based Islamic militant group with close ties to the Pakistani intelligence agency (the ISI), sending you a message. Just why they have chosen to contact you via your CD player is anyone's guess.

                    Nigel.

Well... I guess that's one way to deal with it!

Now, if the player starts talking to you, then we have a whole 'nuther problem.

                            CA-5300 AC hum
                            by pcernicky
                            Hi,

I just received Ca-5300 and when connected either to ac directly or thru ac cleaner, once turned on i can hear with each click hum coming from the rear of the unit. I contacted the Classe support but they just recommended to send it for repair if the hum wont disappear.

My brand new Rsp 1068 started humming. I have had this processor for about 3 weeks. I moved a couple of things around, and found that you can only hear the hum when the component monitor output is connected. I think that the problem is that these wires run side by side to the tv power cable inside...

I just purchased a Parasound New Classic 5250 5-channel amplifier and am now using my 7-year old Sony ES30 receiver as a front end processor until I upgrade to a dedicated prepro.

I have a question or two about some faint hum I’m hearing when I get close to the speakers (when both the...

                            Motor

The motor assembly of a loudspeaker driver is responsible for creating the magnetic field that interacts with the voice coil, allowing the driver to convert electrical signals into sound waves. The design of the motor assembly affects the driver's efficiency, power handling, and overall performance. While there can be various motor assembly configurations, the most common type is the "permanently magnetized motor." The motor assembly of an average loudspeaker driver...
