    AES/EBU digital connection?

Can I use a plain ol' XLR cable to connect the AES/EBU digital out on my CD/DVD player to the AES/EBU digital in on my pre-pro? Or should I spend the money for a specific AES/EBU digital XLR cable?

    thanks!

It will work but the cable discussion is a rathole. If you already have a cable then use it and see how it works...

Actually, the impedance is different. There is specific cable made for AES/EBU. It is NOT 75 ohm.

I happen to have a little of it on hand I "think". I'd have to put a locator on it. (scrounge)

Let me know if your interested in one.

I used to have it on site, but had such little call for it, it eventually fell out of vogue.

I'll make you a decent deal on it, if you want one.

Lex is on the money- AES/EBU characteristic impedance is 110 ohms. It's important because of the bandwidth requirements and need to use a source and terminating impedance that matches to avoid ringing and signal jitter.

You can be absolutely sure about Jon's response. :-)

I have pm'd you back now, sorry for delay, asleep at the wheel and doing other customer business, quite a bit actually.
