Warner Brothers' deal to upgrade your DVD's to Blu-Ray

Warner Brothers is really starting to impress me. Many of you may remember their "Red 2 Blue" deal they offered after HD-DVD died, where you could trade in your HD-DVD WB movies for BD versions, super cheap. Well, they just announced a new program, where you can upgrade selected WB DVD's of yours to Blu-Ray for as little at $7.95. Been holding out on re-purchasing "2001: A Space Odyssey" on BD? Didn't want to pay $30 to re-buy "The Aviator" on BD, if you already had it on DVD? Well now you can, for as little ast $7.95 each, free shipping over $25.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly more than any of the others studios have done. Too bad the selection isn't just a bit bigger. I might do it for 3-4 titles, particularly "Dark City", which I think every film aficianado needs to study as a modern movie influence. I'm hoping that it's not a problem that my DVD isn't the "Director's Cut".

Other than that, maybe Blazing Saddles, Christmas Vacation, (my favorite of the Lampoon Vacations) a Christmas Story. Other than that, I either already bought in on BD to begin with, skipping DVD, or it's not even worth $8 to do the upgrade. (i.e. American History X)

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Every title on the list that is available to upgrade that I have, I've already upgraded (albeit a few to HD DVD--and for half or less than what WB is asking here). A good programme for others, but too late for me.

Yeah, the titles on that list that I wanted to upgrade I have already done so, too. Still, it is a good move on Warner's part.

I'm in the same boat. I've gone the HD-DVD route on most. However, "Dark City" is one that I have yet to upgade that I could. I (like Chris) think it will become "required reading" so-to-speak of filming.

To take the opposing viewpoint, most of those are titles that are selling many places for $10-13, and they probably over-produced. So I wouldn't give them too much credit. Not none either, though.

Also, too late for me. So I am probably just bitter.

Yeah, some of them I got off Amazon for ~$10 or so free shipping. By the time you ship them the movies, you pretty much paid that anyways. Though, not all of them are going to be that cheap.

                Hi there,

First off, I'd like to really really thank (read: Damn you all!!! ) out there who have address and answered my (most amateurish) queries about vinyl. I've jumped headlong into it and there's no getting out now! But more on that later in the post...
