    Introducing Alpha DVD!

Announcing a new Sponsor for htguide.com, Alpha DVD! In case you don't know who Alpha is, those of you that own Avia, flip the disc over and reference Alpha's name emblazoned on the back cover. I have got to find out exactly what they did in this disc making, and will.

But in the meantime, please welcome them. We have a bit of a surprise in store for you from our friends at AlphaDVD. So, stay tuned! Details on New Year's Day!

    Thank you,

    Lex

Thanks guys. Alpha is definitely not your run of the mill DVD store. That's for sure! We have the most visually stimulating discs from their collection in our DVD Lottos for January too! Be sure to register to win.

        Thanks,

        Lex

Thanks for the warm welcome messages. For those of you who are interested Alpha DVD did the "authoring" for the AVIA Guide to Home Theatre disc. "Authoring" is sort of a catch all term in the DVD business the covers everything from video compression through generation of the final DLT tape for mastering. To make a long story short, I produced the AVIA disc for Ovation Software, using test patterns designed and created by Ovation staff members (Guy Kuo and David Ranada).

Alpha DVD only works on DVD titles that we get royalties from, so if you visit our web site you wont find a "traditional" storefront where you can buy DVD movies. We mainly work on special interest or niche titles that appeal to consumers who are looking for more than just blockbuster movies on DVD.

Anyway I am happy to be supporting HTGuide.com, and look forward to reading, and contributing to this forum.

          Thanks

Ralph, thanks for not only the kind words, but also the explanation of Alpha's authoring involvement in these discs. I thought that was right, but I didn't want to speculate.

Thanks for joining us as well! I think it would be great to have you participate at the forum, and offer the "Authorer's" perspective and expert opinion on DVDs.

              Thanks,

              Lex (Doug)

Does anyone know where I can get the Avia Guide to Home Theater DVD for less than $35? I'm a college student that just spent $500 on a TV and I don't want to have to pay $40-50 for a DVD. Is it really that good?

For those who don't know, new editions of Avia and Digital Essentials are about to be released for new technologies since the original editions. Both videos are useful reference items to use in learning about, setting up, and fully calibrating your system in both audio and video. I own both original...

I finally got my new Toshiba 65HDX82 Widescreen RPTV set up. :yesnod:

It was a long day as I had to work it by myself. Trying to get that styrofoam out from under that 280 pound set was not as easy as I thought it would be. :sos: Picking up one end with one hand (while on my old and...

Can someone please try calibrating with a calibration DVD like Avia and then see how those levels compare to the 1098's internal test tones? I thought the 1055 and 1066 I had were pretty close to the avia test tones incl the subwoofer channel but when I tried it with my new 1098 I found the bass to...

                        Calibration problem using AVIA
                        by stjoenewt
This last week I was calibrating my RSX-1055 and noticed a problem. I was using the AVIA disc in a Panasonic DVD player. The DVD player is connected via both optical into one of the digital inputs, and analog into the multi-channel inputs. I did this due to the fact that the player can play DVD-A recordings...
