Interesting that you have a Halo P7. You should pop your head in Club Parasound here in the Guide, and share your gear!

I will start by saying that i'm a noob with not just diy speakers, but on audio altog
Hey everybody, my name is Chris. I'm fairly new to the HT arena, although i have been pretty obsessed over the last year or so. I basically have been pretty involved on the video side of things, but I've never understood the importance of hi-fidelity audio. I just never grew up around audiophile type people, so i never knew what i was missing?
Well, i recently visited a friend, and he had a pair of Klipsch floorstanding speakers, some crazy good sub, some surrounds, etc. His system just absolutely blew me away! In that moment, i really got it! I now understand the importance of hi-fidelity audio...every bit as important as the video. I currently have a Sony HTiB that i bought from Best Buy to put in my HT setup. I love my 1080p projector, and the 118" diy "Black Widow" painted screen that, together, deliver a stunning picture. But my surround sound system is really coming up short, and i need to upgrade ASAP!
So that's why i'm here...to learn as much as i can about hi-fidelity audio. There's nothing more that i would love to be able to do than to build my very own speakers, build my whole ht system, and have my friend envy me as much as i currently envy him! Any help from any of you would be greatly appreciated!- Bottom

Hello everyone my name is JJ and I'm 35, mostly married and she has a 7yr old girl.
My HT bug caught me when I bought my first system in 01 which was a Marantz SR7200, Denon DVD, B&W 602s 603s and LCR600. It was a great set up. That system grew by adding 6 MA500s to biamp the front stage, another pair to the rears and bought a used 55" mitsu rear projection tv. I had that system until feb of this year and went to two channel. I have since build a decent system and my better half and I enjoy every minute we listen to it. Since I work at a HI-FI store here in town the upgrade bug is REALLY bad so I'm sure I'll be getting something new here soon.

"The term "audiophile" means essentially nothing -- it's a self-anointed status that entails no credentials, qualifications or certifications. It means "hobbyist," nothing more, and anyone can lay claim to it. Ironically, I've come to recognize that "audiophiles" represent a group that will believe almost anything"- Bottom

Hey gang! I've been a member for a bit but more of a lurker than a contributor. My name is Joey, 27, math teacher, living in SE Virginia, originally from Buffalo, NY.
I have many passions, a lot of which have been put on the backburner since being bit by the audio bug about 3 years ago. It started with car audio, but quickly turned into an HT fever. I've build logged just about everything I have made, though none are completely my design. (http://www.icixsound.com/vb/icixnati...o=view&id=8663) I'm thinking of designing my own soon, but after learning some more. My Dayton 8's are my best build to date though I am really enjoying my latest build of Cyburg Needles and a dual Tang Band W5-1138 subwoofer for a nice 2.1 in my bedroom. They just need to be finished.
I love building speakers.
'Nough said.
Other than obsessing about speakers, I love to play sports, including football and field hockey, as well as working out on the regular. I have a 2003 Mustang GT convertible I would like to eventually turn into a project show car some tie in the next couple years. That car has had many a different set up in it.
Great to be here and hope to learn and maybe compliment some designers by building their designs.

To be honest,I can get a little carried away, with the length of my Posts at times. But I will try to keep them short but informative.
I just turned 40 earlier this year.
I live with my Parents(both in their 60's)
I had to move in 5 years ago, because of a Bone Disease I was found to have.
I dont mind talking about it(My Bone Disease)or answering questions. So,Please never think I will take offense at anything thought, said,or asked.
When I saw Blu-Ray around the end of 2008,I decided what better way to spend my time then by watching movies and listening to music.
I also have a computerized Telescope I use very seldomnly as a hobby also. But its starting to become too much to set it up and bring it back in.
So,I may go out with it 5 or 6 times during warm, clear evenings.
But HT and Music are my First Love.I got my first Blu-Ray Player right around the start of 2009.And haven't looked back.
Though I Do Suffer from a Severe Case of Upgrade-itis :B
:B .(Where I am constantly adding new additions to my system).
Then also making any changes I can to get better overall performance.
I have a long way to go,to have a Home Theater/Audio System like I want but I am slowly but surely getting there.
I have recently Begun Listening to SACD's and love them.As I also Love 2-Channel Audio.
So,I am on a quest to have a system thats Good with Movies and Music.
And I was introduced to one hobby related to HT,that I am slowly adding to.That is Movie Collectibles.
Pieces from Sideshow Collectibles,GentleGiant,and QuantumMechanix.
I would keep on,but I feel like I have already made this post longer then it should be.(If So I am Sorry)

Oh my. T O you just put one right in the strike zone. A nice 9" Schmidt-Cassegrain with a good Go-To base is one of my big wants - once the house remodel is finished someday. I've used smaller 'scopes and seen the photos from larger ones similar to what I'm interested in and it's all just amazing to me.I also have a computerized Telescope I use very seldomnly as a hobby also. But its starting to become too much to set it up and bring it back in. Hi. My name is Richard and I live in Southern California. I own a granite fabrication business with my brother and his wife.
I completed my first DYI speaker last month. I have zero experience in speaker design so my first project was building the Seas Idunn kit with one change to the design.... I fabricated the enclosures from .75" Bianco Romano granite rather than MDF. The speakers look awesome and sound great to my untrained ear!
I am now hooked and in the process of building a set of surround sound speakers for my home. Again using DYI kits but this time I will build the enclosures out of Black Pearl granite with white Marble inlays in the towers and the sub.
I am not yet finished and already looking to build a higher end kit.
Look forward to learning everything I can from the rest of you!

Welcome to another musician. Hello, Loren. Both Chris and I play the trumpet. Not sure about Chris, but I had a small group in the 50s, playing at dances, weddings, etc. Also played 2nd trumpet in a couple of big bands locally, but that was also back in the 50/60s. I'm pretty much retired from everything now except my interest in movies and home theater, and music, of course.- Bottom

My username is my name name. I originally got on the site back in mid-March (and haven't even posted in all this time) for some research for a 9.1 project I had intended on embarking on, then I decided "meh" and nixed the project for various reasons. As of late though thanks to a friend and fellow audio nut, I've gained a great deal of interest in Jim Holtz's Statements, and have been reading and researching endlessly about them, and plan to embark on my own Statement build in the near-future.
I'm a born-and-raised Texan, though some would say I was never raised :B I've been an audio entusiast since I was 5, understood Ohm's law before I had even made it into middle school, and have been obsessed with the hobby ever since I pieced together my first 4.1 system in 5th grade.
My first HT was a full-fledged JBL Northridge 7.1 setup using a Kenwood VR-9070, but I eventually got rid of all but the JBL E50s and Kenwood receiver. In fact they're sitting in front of me right now as my "computer system".
Most recently, I was running an all-Polk LSi 7.1 system, consisting of a Pioneer Elite SC-37 powering modded LSi25s, a modded LSiC, LSiFXs, LSi7s, and a PSW1000. I've sold off all but the LSi25s and PSW1000 in effort to fund my Statements build.
I went to the University of Oklahoma on scholarship for singing, but I partied wayyyy too much, so now I'm back home in Dallas, TX, attending a community college until I can repair my GPA sufficiently to make it into UTD and get a degree in marketing.
Between my Silverado and my house, I've got too many projects to even think straight. I'm still on a quest to build a killer subwoofer enclosure for my truck to house my twin JBL W15GTis. I'm not the type who keeps it up at earth-shaking volumes all the time as I'm driving down streets and rattling the body panels on all the cars around me at stoplights, but I like being able to crank it when an awesome song comes on the radio, knowing I have an overkill amount of headroom and will never have to worry about pushing any part of my system into distortion.
I have somewhat the same goal in mind for my HT, first with the Statements build, and then my LFE build, which will consist of a TC Sounds LMS 5400 Ultra + two TC Sounds VMP 18 passive radiators. I haven't really decided on the amp or processing yet, but I started the project with the Crown I-Tech 8000 in mind. I realize that's more than enough, but it allows for nearly-unlimited expandability, the ability to be controlled/tuned, etc via my computer network (it really makes you not miss the days of "run up to the sub, adjust, run back to your seat, listen, then run up to the sub, adjust, run back to your seat, listen, then run...), and the ability to power anything to its full potential, so I see it as a worthwhile investment.
I'm a singing, crazy, partying, hunting, fishing, guy who drives a 2011 Silverado with a Ranch Hand front bumper, and the typical assortment of "I'm a second-amendment-loving Texan" bumper stickers on the back window, but have a sharp ear and mind, so don't pass me off as a redneck, just "country".
I look forward to talking with lots of you and picking at your minds as I get more and more into my build!- Bottom

Newb!
Hello HTG.com.
Longtime browser and lurker :lurk:, new member.
I've been in the home theater and audio game since the early 90's.
Since my Audio/Video Entertainment system is going thru an evolution, I decided to broaden my horizons and join the site.
From what I have observed thus far, HTG.com renders the best of both worlds,.... knowledgeable members in both audio and video, and a friendly atmosphere without all of the bickering and of some other HTE's (Home Theater Enthusiast) websites/forums.
I do love this hobby tremendously and I hope to enhance my knowledge and gain some forum friends. I also hope that I can share in my knowledge also and be able to help others using what I've learned over the years.
I am an audio first, home theater second kind of hobbyist. My system sort of reflects that concept. I am a former Marantz loyalist, but ever since the complete integration of the Denon and Marantz feature set in their recent products, I've abandoned Marantz as my primary source and I'm now a Rotel and Anthem kind of guy, and what a difference it has made in my listening experience.
My system went from this:

To this:

Not much of change when it comes to configuration, but the players have changed and the performance has improved significantly.
I now feel worthy of being a member of the Home Theater Guide.com website. :T :BLast edited by ldgibson76; 26 August 2011, 18:02 Friday.Regards,

Hi all. My name is Doug, and I'm pretty much retired from flying helicopters. Married to a great gal, and we live in Austin TX. My first sound system was a big driver out of a console radio from the late 40's or early 50's that I mounted inside an enclosure I made. Had it hooked up to an old wire recorder, and also had a clock radio hooked up to the recorder for AM radio. Been into 2 ch for many years, and always liked turning on the stereo when watching movies. Now the main system is 5.1 which doubles as a stereo system too. My main system is comprised of:
Sunfire Theater Grand IV
Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature
Polk Audio SRS II speakers with all the tweaks and upgrades
Oppo BDP-83SE
Direct TV HDDVR
Sony 330 CD
Dual CS 714q Turntable
Carver Audio PST-24 Cassette
HRT Musicstreamer II+
The shop system consists of:
Carver C-11 Pre
Carver TFM 45 Amp
Old mac powerbook
HRT Music Streamer II+
Polk Audio Monitor 10A speakers
Music I enjoy spans the spectrum from Rock to classical, although Classic Rock, and artists such as Allman Brothers, Beatles, C.C.R., Doobie Brothers, Eagles, ZZTop, and Lynyrd Skynyrd are my favorites. Enjoy a pretty nice LP collection, but lately have not listened much. The sound is low and the music has no life to it. I think my cartridge needs to be replaced, but have been putting it off due to cost of a good one.
I've rambled on enough for now.

Howdy,
Time to introduce myself. I'm Mick, 47 years old, born and raised in Amsterdam. Since I was a kid into building speakers and not too long ago also building tube amps... My set up: An Elekit tube amp, Beogramm tangential turntable, Shanling cd player, Maverick Audio dac and Jordan full range VTL speakers.
At this moment I'm looking into a new and better design for my speakers. At first I was very interested in the Model One speakers of Tom Evans. In this sealed design the FR Jordans are used next to the HiVi m8a drivers. But as I have second thoughts about the sealed construction due to LF restrictions a was looking for other designs using the HiVi drivers. So this is when I came across this forum stumbling over Jon's beautiful Avalon Acoustic clones. I probably end up a lot in the Mission Impossible corner and hope to learn and share knowledge about DIY audio! One is want and one is need. And I want what I need.- Bottom
