Thanx guys! Posts will follow. I do have some pics of the build of my Elekit tube amp. And when I'm somewhat further with the build my new speakers, I will start a thread on that to...
One is want and one is need. And I want what I need.

        Hey, Jeff here.

36 years old, married since 2000. Doing some research due to a move with work and building a new theater.

100% build from scratch on equipment, haven't found a home yet, so not sure about the room. Hoping for an unfinished basement, but we'll see.

Real passion is building custom cars, including car audio. This will be my first time building all speakers DIY. To me the theater is more about using it when it's done, and I usually build it the way I want from the start while hoping not to catch upgrade-itis.

Sooooo, how come I can only see a few topics on each section? Before I registered I was able to see much more? Is there an amount of posts I need to make?

You're probably only seeing those posts in each section that were made in a certain time period, like in the past week, or past month. Scroll to the bottom of each section, and on the left side you'll see a bar that says "Thread Display Options". To see them all, choose the drop-down box "Show Threads from the beginning", and then go to the right of the page and click the button "Show Threads". Hope this helps!

Hi everyone, so a little bit about me.
My name is Darren, in 44 but a big kid at heart! Im a graphic artist and I'm originally form the UK (Derby). Moved to the Boston MA in 2001 purely on a whim, got offered a job transferring from a UK graphic design house to an office they had opened up as we were contracted to Gillette. Came for 6 months and that was 13 years ago, love it here getting my citizenship early next year so I've got to start studying american history - hope i do better than in school!
got married 5 years ago to my Canadian wife Carol and we have a 1 year old daughter and recently opened a small physical therapy clinic.

I've always loved quality items, used to have a nice Rotel set up back in the UK but had to sell it when i moved. i guess now I'm older and have more responsibilities its hard to part with a lot of money to get the things I really want so I've gone down the DIY route a few times with great success. I think the first big project was to upgrade my iMac, i was doing video editing on the side for a while and needed a powerful machine but couldn't drop the $4000 on the mac i really wanted. instead i built a hackintosh that is lighting fast and more powerful than ill probably ever need. so i then decided to build a home theatre on a budget. bought a cheap hd projector and 100in screen, added a soundbar and cheap seating - its amazing what you can find for a good price when your prepared to do some research. After that i ended up getting a Yamaha AV receiver with a BIC america 5.1 setup which i was very happy with to a point but decided i wanted something that was out of this world status. i ended up in this forum and now have started replacing my speakers with Statement towers which i completed about a month ago. Im in the process of building the center channel which sound be done in a few weeks. basically i love getting my teeth into a project and this has by far been the most challenging/fun!

Hello everyone I'm Vitor, 44 years old, living in Portugal

The passion for music took me to hi-fi… and hi-fi just get me away from music. Long story.

After much research I have the same system about 7 years and what grew up was the amount of music, cd vinyl or files.

                            System:
Pioneer PD 9300, Marantz PM 52 both modified by a friend
                            B&W DM 6

I work at the same Company for 20 years, the oldest of Portugal with 500 years of existence CTT Correios de Portugal a relationship of love and hate 🌚

                              Welcome, Victor!

My mother lived near Faro in the Algarve for 4 years back in the early 90's & I have many wonderful memories of visiting her there.
Portugal is a beautiful place with great culture, history, food & passion for life.
I fell in love with Fado when I was there.

Hello, all. Brand new to the forum. I need to build some speakers and, while I have plenty of woodworking experience and tools, I am new to speaker building. Roughly 8 years ago, I purchased a Seas Thor kit. It came with drivers, crossovers, and about 60 pounds of Black Hole. I have never opened the boxes. ops:

Thinking I would like to make a small set of punchy 2-ways for my kitchen before starting on such a large tower system. Sort of get my feet wet.

Thank you for the welcome. I worked in McLean for 27 years. Engineer for Northrop Grumman. Retired now and enjoying life. After nearly two decades of living in sub-divisions I couldn't take it any more and purchased 45 acres on the Rappahannock river between Fredericksburg and Culpeper. Put the house and pool in the middle and a gate across the drive. Couldn't take all the people any longer. My wife (of 34 years) and I have horses, cows, goats, a donkey, and two giant dogs.

Grew up in the small town of Ligonier, roughly an hour from Pittsburgh, a very long time ago. One of my sisters was Little Red Riding Hood at Story Book Forest for three years straight while she was in high school.

Just a no0b question here, but I see a banner at the top that says, "Attention HTG fans: Support us while shopping here. It supports this forum EVERY DAY. Please keep that in mind as you look and shop! Thank you!"

I am in the market for either a 2-way kit or, perhaps, an MTM. I plan on pulling the trigger in the next 30 days and am reading every large build post you guys have done in the last year or so. Some of the work is nothing short of amazing. I have woodworking skills, lots of experience with exotic hardwoods, but no experience with MDF. It seems rather daunting. Who are your sponsors? I would like to purchase a kit from someone who supports this forum if I can.

                                              Hi,
I am Oldbob, as opposed to Bob who used to post here years ago. Seems that I waited to many years between posts so, all my info was lost. I think I used to post as Bob but, I am old now and maybe that is wrong. I first meet Lex on one of the very first Home Theater forums many years ago in the days of dial up modems. Can't remember the name of the forum. I stopped posting there because I liked tube electronics and vinyl and was told with much emphasis that I was only welcomed there if I never mentioned either anymore because, "everybody knows that solid state and digital is superior." I still like tubes and vinyl but, won't talk about it.
Home theater has come a long, long ways in just a short time. My first setup was all Theta with the very first generation Casablanca. At that time it was the only AV receiver that could correctly and without bugs decode surround sound. I think it was called AC3. Just a few months later Lexicon came out with the second AV receiver that could do the same. There were others out there but, they were full of bugs and only partially worked.
So, now for just a few hundred dollars you can get a good AV receiver that works flawlessly, and DVDs (despite their inferior sound) are cheap and took the place of expensive laser discs that had some serious problems. Mainly, they were to big, the coating rotted and you got white spots in the picture, the players were noisy (except for Theta's), and they were hard to find. I like it now much better.
                                              So, that's my introduction.

                                                Hi All,

I am pretty new to this scene and just bought a second hand set of B&W P6. I hooked them up to a Marantz SR7300 and so far I am blown away (guess I am not used to anything yet) I really love the sound of the P6, but the are in a not to good shape. Woofers are all fine but 1 tweeter is broken/dented and the casings need some love. One of my passions is buying second hand tech stuff and refurbishing it... I did it with coffee machines, Apple laptops and desktops and now my B&W P6 :-)

                                                Cheers Cor

                                                              Introduce myself

                                                              Hello all!

My name is Peter and I started my addiction 29 years ago when I was 16. My first set of speakers were Polk Audio SDA 2's . After the Polk's I stepped into Kipsch RB-75's and then to MK S150's. I just recently gave the Polks (in working condition) to a family friend and left my Klipsch in a theater I built in my last house.

The past 6 or 7 years I've moved into the DIY side of the hobby and built an ottoman sub, SEOS 12/TD12M's and a pair of Concentric-8's. Before I moved to New Zealand I purchased a few kits from Meniscus, which included a set of Finalists for my father-in-law and a pair of Statement II's for myself. I had previously built a pair of Statements for a friend in Mountain View, California.

I plan to stick around for a while and post build threads once my stuff arrives from the states. My builds tend to take quite a while, so please be patient.

Just wanted to say thanks to many of you have posted some really interesting and informative posts.

I expect Bill (wkhanna) will be around to say "Hi" at some point as well.

Alaric sent me over from overclockers.com for some audio advice.

A little bit of background, I used to be heavily into audio, mostly played from my PC, and I have always been a fan of vinyl as well. I recently plugged my Sennheiser Momentum on-ear headset into my new PC, and I was actually blown away by the audio quality (it does have an onboard DAC and headphone amp, however I assumed this was marketing until I tried it). So down the rabbit hole I went. For the PC I'm using a pair of Sennheiser / Massdrop HD58X Jubilee with a modmic. They really belong in the HD600 series, and again they are in another league from the Momentums.

I like listening to all sorts of music, recently I've been enjoying some Leonard Cohen and Nina Simone, as well as a bit of Pink Floyd and some other classic rock.

I also enjoy cars. Living in South Dakota, my daily driver is a 1994 F150 4x4, but I have a Focus ST for road trips and fun as well.

Blasphemy I know.

Just joined but have read HT Guide for a few years as time permitted. I started DIY audio in 1975 by building the Dynaco SCA-80 integrated amp kit to go with my prized AR-2ax speakers and Thorens manual TT all ordered off the back-page ads of Stereo Review magazine. DIY speaker building began for me with a small 2way designed by a fellow named Ed Frias. Probably got that kit from MadiSound. In 2011, I built Jim & Curt's mini-statements (pre-meniscus) that still do daily duty in my family room and are singing some Linda Ronstadt as I write. Love the mini-statements sound. Recently retired and now I plan to take on some other DIY audio projects as soon as the honey-do list gets a bit shorter, if ever.

Looking at the post dates it looks like I'm one of the few noobs from 2020/2021. I get that, all in all, its been almost two years of non-stop drama given the pandemic, masks and social distancing thing. Anyway, I'm a 57-year-old semi-retired semiconductor field equipment service manager / operations manager. I started in Fremont Ca back in '92 and was lucky enough to experience the cutting edge of semiconductor technology from inside the bubble.

I've been an audio fan most of my life. I worked a paper route back in 1980 to purchase my first "adult" system; a Pioneer SX3800 receiver, CT-F750 cassette deck and Pioneer PL-2 turntable. Even then I was building my own speakers. I took that system along with a set of home-built tower speakers to college with me and they served me well. After graduation, I migrated to a Yamaha AV system (not sure of the model but it’s in the closet of my office) and a Harmon Kardon TD302 tape deck (also in the closet!) About a year later I took a big chunk of my income and sunk it into my first CD player. This was the definitive moment when I became a digital audio fan.

Along my personal and professional adventures, I ran across a friend of a friend who had somehow blown up his Outlaw Audio 7 channel amplifier. It took me almost two months of troubleshooting until I discovered that he had shorted the PCB's of three of the seven amplifier modules. After repairing the remaining channels, I fell in love with the quiet power the amp provided and moved it into my then fledgling home theatre setup. It remained there until I ran across a gear head needing money and made him a steal of a deal on his ATI 2007 and Onkyo Integra 80.2 preamp. The 80.2 lost video a few years later (a common problem) so I traded up to an 80.3 which is still with me today.

I met my wife back in 94 after living in Fremont, CA for almost two years, we got married in '96 and have been together ever since. In 2017 I opted to take what Silicon Valley refers to as a sabbatical to unwind and relax a bit; that sabbatical turned into semi-retirement. I take contract jobs and work part time consulting for companies but have no desire to return to the 60-70 hour work weeks the valley expects. In 2018 we moved from then San Jose, CA to a suburb outside of Sacramento. We went from a monthly mortgage to no mortgage, gained a bigger house in a more attractive suburban area. We also moved my Wife's Mother and Father in with us

My latest projects are a pair of Jim Holtz/Curt Campbell designs, the Statement II's. I became interested in them back in 2016 (then just the Statements) and did a prototype build in late 2017/early 2018 I loved the sound of the speakers and set out to build a set of "Custom Statements" that met my own design aesthetic. I hope to create a build thread to add to the copious amount of Statement builds on this forum. I’ve lurked here and the AVS forum for about a year now but decided it was time to officially join. Once the Custom Statements are complete, I will be building a Lilmike design, s, the LilWrecker subwoofer

When we moved, we moved two families worth of "stuff" along with my childhood things that I moved out of my parents house so all in all it took a full sized moving van and a 30' truck to get it all in one shot Since then, we've been sorting, donating and selling everything that doesn't have a home but there's still a ways to go. Currently, my workshop space is consumed with those tubs so a build thread will be waiting. Currently, I'm just exploring options in Fusion360 while the Statement II BOM waits in the closet. If nothing else, my CAD skills are improving

My current setup consists of jamo speakers and a benq w1070 projector.
