Does your Sub freq setting change when going from movies to music??

    Hello...

We all love the powerful low low Lf that we get from our sub(s) for movies. I'd like to know if any of you folks change your sub settings when you go to DVD music and CD's?

I was messing around with my sub settings (2-ch w/sub using Lexicon's X-over) and loved the 120hz setting for music. I usually had the sub set at 40hz for movies. The sound went from a powerful open hand to a very tight fist. Does anyone use the X-over in their sub? If you have more than one sub, how many subs do you lisen to with DVD music/CD's? In the 5.1/7.1 mode for DVD concerts, do you keep the same sub freq as for movies? Thanks!!

Yeah, if my sub has mayo on it, I usually change it out to mustard. :B

Actually, sometimes, I find I prefer my speakers set to full range, and no subs for some music. But if I am in a rockin slammin sort of mood, I leave them as is.

Fact is, not many high power subs can keep up with the tightness of good 3-way speakers. Size or the driver dictates a lot of this along with reduced SPLs, and enclosure construction. The best subs for music, mostly use 8-10" woofers. 12-15 you begin to get some flap. Flap is great for movies, but not so great for music. Sure, there can be exceptions to any generalization. But for the most part, I find the above to hold true.

I bypass the sub amp's x-over and use the crossover in my preamp (80 Hz) with movies and music. I raise the sub out level by 3 dB when watching movies.

I tried a couple of different configurations (including external crossover and using the L&R main preouts + sub x-over) but I settled on keeping it simple in the end.

Hi Mr. Will, Any relation to the famous one?? I have only one sub, actually I have 2 but only use one. I can't change the xover on the sub because of my receiver, which xover's at 80hz. It seems to work fine for me, 120hz xover is definitely tooo high for anything as far as I'm concerned, way too much into the lower midrange, and that would also be too directional. But if it works for you, that's cool. Who's to say what's right and what's wrong, well a lot of people do actually !! But let's face it, "they're the ones who ARE wrong"!! Enjoy it while you can !!
            Happy Holidays. Peace SteveF

My DIY sonotube sub is done. Pic and impressions inside.
              by JonW
It’s done and, right away, I’ll say I’m very happy with it. This was my first DIY project. Before starting, I wasn’t even sure what a router is. I borrowed one for the project. But I had so much fun making the sub that I’ve since bought my own tools and will soon be trying to build some...

              Sub with B&W 803s?
              by b&Wman
I'm planning on getting the new B&W 803S when they come out. Currently, I'm using CDM 1NT's as mains coupled with a sub. I'm sure the 803S will sound much better than the CDM 1NTs when I get them. I'm using a much cheaper sub (Polk PSW 650) which is fine for movies but not great for music. Due...

My sub wont work reliably with PCM 2-channel - Rotel RSP-1570

I'm new here as well as to decent audio in general and am looking for some help. I've read the various manuals (a number of times now), tried different settings and have searched but still can't get my sub working reliably when playing PCM 2-channel music through my RSP-1570.

              I'm playing...

              Hello all..

Just got my new toy about 1 month ago..

I replaced my Anthem D2V with ARC for this... Mainly because I have rotel amps and love the sound, and always thought the Anthem lacked in something..

To my surprise, the rotel blew the anthem away at much...

              Sub building advice
              by heapatrouble
I am new to this site, and have been deeply interested in diy speaker projects for years. Until recently, I haven't had the room available for indulging in such projects, but that has recently changed. One of the first projects which I would like to explore is a subwoofer. It seems like, from the standpoint...
