    Disney's throwaway disc...

Aren't these supposed to be available about now? Anyone seen them around. Hopefully it will fall flat on its kisser. Also, we don't need more disposable stuff in the landfill.

Bad, bad, bad... I hope this never comes to fruition, or if it does, that it dies immediately. Same fate as DivX

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

I see this disposable media dying quickly. They're calling it EZ-D. There was a recent article of it in Sound&Vision mag, Sept. issue. Apparently it's a joint venture between Flexplay Technologies and GE Plastics. They're making the discs so that it would be unreadable (it turns black) 48 hours after it's removed from its package and exposed to air. Flexplay is saying it will last for a year unopened and can be made to expire 6 to 60 hours after opening.

I think it's a waste of money as retailers are saying it will initially cost $7 US ($10 CDN). They are saying that Special Features and bonus materials wouldn't be included either in these EZ-D's. The only benefit of this is that you wouldn't have to return it. The only place of retail that I could see this successful is at airports where they rent out portable DVD players, or when these type of players penetrate the masses.

At half the cost I could rent the movie (DVD). If I am patient and can wait longer, I can buy the movie previously viewed at Blockbuster or Rogers Video for the same cost on DVD ($10 CDN).
