I was thinking about this the other day, and hear me out before you think I'm crazy.
Ok so I have about 25 HD-DVDs, 30 Blu-rays, and 100+ SD-DVDs. I have a Toshiba XA2 & Panny BD30 to play them. Now at first I thought, there's no way in hell I'd rebuy all my HD-DVDs as blu-rays. BUT upon actually looking at them, it looks like it might actually work.
*=combo disc, ~=have on SDDVD.
300*
Aeon Flux
American Gangster*
Apollo 13~
Batman Begins~
Bourne Identity~
Bourne Supremecy~
Bourne Ultimatum*
Charlie & Choc Factory
The Departed*
DVE*
Firewall*
Full Metal Jacket~
Heroes Season 1
Hulk
King Kong
Last Samurai~
Matrix~
Matrix Reloaded~
Matrix Revolutions~
Oceans 13*
Planet Earth
Top Gun
Transformers
Now out of all of those, here's the list of ones I'd actually want on Blu-ray (* = not available on blu-ray yet):
300
Apollo 13*
Batman Begins
Bourne Identity*
Bourne Supremecy*
Bourne Ultimatum*
Full Metal Jacket
Last Samurai
Transformers (soon obviously)
so dropping those that are available in cart at amazon = $103. Assume $25 for the other four and you get ~$200 total. Now the list of movies I lose completely is:
Aeon Flux
Charlie & Choc Factory
Heroes Season 1
Hulk
King Kong
Planet Earth
Top Gun
All of these were free, and except Planet Earth & King Kong, not worth it in HD IMHO (Though I haven't even watched Heroes yet).
So anyhow the conclusion/moral of the story/etc is, is it worth $200 to completely remove a piece of equipment out of your setup? Free up an HDMI port? Not saying I'm going to do it but after looking over it, it doesn't seem to be quite as obvious of a choice... what do you guys think? What are your situations? I know some of yall have 100+ HDDVDs, obviously that would get way too expensive
but my guess is a lot of those with HDDVDs are closer to me in terms of quantity.
