What is the very best deal you ever received in HT/Audio??

Hello folks...

I have received over $6,000 in Monster spk wire and inner's, which I paid $1,000. It was 130 feet for the "REF" Z3 & M1 spk cable. I use all the cable because I passive bi-amp my spks. Custom lenghts (4 meter) of 7 pairs of M1000i. Also I have M1000d, M1000v, M550i, and Z series S-VHS cable. I got lucky.

Through a good friend, I paid $1600 for (2) FSR-18 Velodyne subs. The best thing about this is I got to see my subs being built from A to Z. At the time, I called two other buddies of mine to see if they were interested in this one time deal, they were both strapped for cash. I bought two of them, and sold one to another buddy of mine. I regret it in a way. At the time, I didn't know nowhere as much as I know now about subs. I would have stacked or placed them right next to each other. I always tease him about who got him a great sub. I know there's someone out there that can top this, let's hear it. One of my buddies that wasn't able to get a sub always kids me about if my house was ever on fire, just give him enough time to run in and grab the Velodyne.

Had to copy this one over.

Lex, Andrew, if were going to do the greatest-bargain-ever topic, can we create a seperate thread? This has to potential to be good.
My greatest bargain: I was parusing my local hi-fi store's dent-and-chipped trade in pile and saw what appeared to be a THX Denon receiver. I asked the sales manager, " How much for the Denon?" He replied, " 900 hundred bucks." Having my eye on a B&K and a Parasound pre-amp I declined and went home.

Later that evening, my wife approached me and asked, " Honey, did you see the Denon pre-amp?"

" Pre-amp?, I saw a receiver," I replied.

" Well, I'm talking about the Denon AVP-8000 pre-amp they had in the used section."

ZOIKS! 2 years ago you couldn't find those bad boys at all much less for 900 bucks, they still listed for $3750. " We must go back now!"

" Calm down," the wife replied, " I have his number."

It's in the cabinet, my wife rules!

H/K AVR-7000 Retail: $1700 - traded my AVR-65 which I only paid $500 for to begin with.

Sony Wega 36" XBR400 - $1900

Monster Cable and Monster Power - I really couldn't say...probably 80% off retail -maybe better?

Will, what do you mean, you saw them built from A to Z?

My greatest A/V deals:

1. Toshiba 9000 DVD player. Are you ready for this? 500 bucks! Demo, as new.
2. Infinity Kappa 7.1 3 way speakers with emit-r tweeters, polydome mid-range, and 10" woofs. 800 bucks for the pair! Demos.
3. Mirage M590-si, NIB, 400 bucks for the pair!
4. STRICKEN
5. I almost forgot, Sf Concertos, used in mint condition with Lovan Ballet II stands, 1200 bucks!!!

Paid 2800 for my GPs, so my deal not as good as Ken's. Ken, you'da man!

There are others, but that's my most impressive deals.

Lex...

My buddy use to work for Velodyne. Their production plant is in San Jose Ca (45 minutes from my house). My friend was the head man of customer service, and we had talked about problems I was having with my FSR-12 at the time. Another friend of mine told me about most companies having certain monies set aside for unhappy customers complaining about product not doing what it's suppose to do. The money is set aside for upgrades to the custoer. This is the same thing that happened with my Monster cable. At the time, I helped my buddy get started into HT, and for my services, he let me and my other buddy come to the plant and see our FSR-18's built piece by piece.

Ken, that is an awesome deal. I paid a wee bit more. 350.00 for italian marble that as you know, listed for 500. But at least I don't have my speakers sitting on tombstones! Oh, that had to hurt.

Paul, patience grasshopper. To walk the path of the wise ones takes time. You must first give sacrifice at the alter, and chant " I will find a bargain, I will find a bargin, over and over and over, all this while covering yourself in siliputty and telling all your friends about HTGuide! Please let us know when you are prepared to walk the walk of the great ones. lol.

Oh gee, I need some new Grand Pianos. I wonder if Will can get me into the factory over in Italy, rofl. That's classic stuff! Watch your sub being made at Velodyne, lol. I needed a good laugh. hehe. *JK* That's just kidding. You da man Will!

Wow, you guys are good shoppers. Especially Abdul! I get the feeling that he has them standing on their hind legs begging him to buy, rofl. I think I could fly you in as negotiator on my next purchase and still come out, hehe.

Well, my "Good Deal" doesn't really compare to what you guys got, but non-the-less, it was a pretty good deal to me!

I bought a Pioneer 508 Receiver ($300) and a Sony S530 (I think that was the model 3) DvD player ($200) for a total of $550. Then I bought a complete set of KLH speakers for $150.

Now that's not a very good deal, right? But then a neighbor of mine traded me my Pioneer Receiver, Sony DVD player, and all 6 KLH speakers for his Yamaha 795 Receiver and Yamaha 795 DVD player!

At that time, the receiver retailed for $699 and so did the DVD player.

So in actuality, I feel like I got $1400 of equipment for $700! :B

Thomas.

Hello MRWILL,

One buy I'm very proud of are my twelve cinema seats which I purchased when the local theatre was refurbishing... all TWELVE for $1.10 EACH that's $13.20 TOTAL! I buy more expensive magazines usually! Also I am in Australia, so taking into account exchange rates that's $7.60US!

I haven't stopped smiling.

I had heard a pair of Legacy's Focus speakers, and it give me the upgrade blues. So to cure those blues I started shopping for a used pair. I called a guy in Ohio, and he was in the process of selling the advertised pair I gave him my number in case the buyer backed out.
About an hour later he calls back and ask if I'd pay $500 more for a brand new set, shipped straight from the factory!!! Seems he was also a factory rep. All I had to do was take them in antique walnut, instead of the rosewood I wanted...it took me all of 10 seconds to say yes So I got a brand new set of Legacy's for $3600 delivered vs $5600 retail.

Well my best deal to date would have to be my Energy e:xL12 sub for $360 cdn on a Boxing day sale.

Next would have to be the Super flex 12 awg speaker wire $36 cdn for a 100 foot roll at Cosco.

I don't think I got too bad of a deal on my Rotel gear either... RMB-1095, RSP-1098, RB-1080, RT-1080 for ~$5,000 (I'd need the receipt for the exact amount since I bought speakers as well).

Primestar wired the house, put double-conductor heavy-duty quad insulated RG6U into every room, routed them to a common area in the basement, and buried a line to a post in the front yard. Also left about 300 feet of unused cable. No charge for any of it, and when I told them about the leftover cable, they told me to forget about it.

Primestar has long since disappeared, but the wiring has not. In fact, I just used some of the leftover stuff to make component cables for my HT projector.

During that time my local Klipsch dealer was in the process of being bought out by Tweeter who doesnt carry Klipsch. So, I narrowed the search between the RB-35 and the RS-7. I settle on the RS-7 with an MSRP of I think $800.00 or $900 a pair (going from memory) and I decided they were too much so I purhcased some used. The day after I got the used pair for $450.00 the salesman I had always delt with called me with a deal. It seems that Tweeter wanted the Klipsch gone and they were able to sell the demo stuff dirt cheap. I was ready to offer $500 and he came out with $400 for the pair but they didnt have a demo pair so I had to come and get the new ones in the box. :T

When I got there I realized he was disgruntled about the buy out and was sticking it to the man so to speak, by pleading ignorance to his bosses.

Not long after they officially became Tweeter I got a flyer in the mail from my salesman who had opened his own store, not surprising.

I ordered a set, they were $32 on sale, B&H had them for $90!, and if you signed up for an Amazon CC you could get 30 bucks off your first purch w/ the card. On top of all that they were set up for super saver shipping SO I thought, man a pair of the rear stands I want for $2, what a deal right? Well two weeks later UPS says they delivered to the adress, while i was home, but I never got them. Called up Amazon and the immediatly ship next day a second pair out. About a month after all that, some lady from across town said she had got them and thoght they were her brothers or something and they were just sitting inthe garage. Cool that she brought them back!

There is an infocus PJ the LP335 coming up for me this wknd for $350.00 Cnd.

I have an opportunity to buy a Janis sub Amp for $80.00 bucks too! What do you think is this 100 watt amp worth it?

Last month pickup a Sharp PJ with a 100 in. screen both for $200.00cash in perfect working order > 431 hours on bulb and sold it for $1000.00 and $600.00 for the screen.

Bought in China town NY a sony CD player with pitch control for $40.00 sold it here for $250.00 couple years back.
