This story is about Lions Gate and the profit it is making of catalogue titles and new releases but I'm sure the situation applies to all studios. I won't expect to see lower priced new releases any time soon. Read the story here:

Nice article. I'm assuming when the guy changes his revenue predictions from 400 to 419 million, he's meaning that 19 million is attributed to blu-ray and not the full 419 million?
I'm in the camp (well maybe its just me I don't know) that believes you get what you pay for w/media. You can buy a highly compressed music album off the internet for $8, or you can buy the full blown physical album at the store for $15. Same goes with movies. You can buy the 720x480 DVD for $15, or the 1920x1080 BD for $30. Of course hopefully the prices will come down, but I can't get all bent out of shape over it when I paying for something that's so much higher in quality.-Chuck- Bottom

Since DVD's seemed to naturally settle around $12-15 for a reasonably priced, good movie, I feel that $19.99 is a reasonable price for BD. I do think they're overpriced right now, but from the beginning, both HD-DVD and BD have said that the higher disc prices were because of the smaller, growing market.
Of course, the flip side of that is that prices should drop as the market grows. We'll have to see.CHRIS
Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

As far as pricing on HD/Blu-Ray goes, I'm enjoying DeepDiscount's website..

I still remember when Laser Discs were king for quality. They were priced at $90 and up. look at the quality you get comparing BD to LD. I won't pay more than about $6 for a DVD these days, The first few BD I bought I payed almost $35 ea. Now if it is not on my must have list I won't pay more than about $25. COSTCO's has BD's for about $20 (small selection though). I just bought Clockwork Orange there. Crazy movie. :E- Bottom

At least if there is decent margins in it the manufacturers may get some more releases happening so far I find the range available to be dissapointing especially as quite a few of the films released are not films that I would not pay a premium to see in Hi Def ie films that are spectaculars rather than talkies.
