Best Film: Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers
      Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis
      Best Actress: Rene Zellweiger
      Best Supporting Actor: Paul Newman
      Best Supporting Actress: Julianne Moore

I am simply stunned that Road To Perdition and Tom Hanks were MIA (excepting Paul Newman's deserved nomination). That is a serious omission and mistake, IMO.

Well, it's like an article said I read today. There is no best picture, or best actor really (I added that last part). It's all just a big game really.

There's just to much good work out there to limit it to one. Maybe the top 3 if you were fair about it.

I read that Twin Towers and Gangs may get left out. Well, David doesn't think so, but remember, the critics and Hollywood in crowd are running this show, not the movie going public.

No predictions here, I haven't seen them all.

The only two nominees in all categories that should be "automatic" winners (if the members of the Academy actually watch the movies instead of just playing politics) are:

            Best Animated Feature: Spirited Away

Simply magical... as good as some the others in this category are, this one is in a class by itself (of this year's nominees).

            Best Cinematography: Road To Perdition

Conrad F. Hall did some remarkable work in his lifetime, but this film is perhaps the most beautifully rendered movie on film ever -- I can't think of any that outclass it. True artistry in the service ofteh story -- the color palatte and use of light and shadow were both artistic and effective. The only possible negative is that the Academy seldom awards a posthumous Oscar -- but giving this one to Hall would sort of be like giving him a life time achievement award as well as recognizing his outstanding work on this film.

What you DON'T say may be held against you...

Oh absolutely, I don't think LOTR: TTT will win. I WANT it to though as I think it was the best picture of 2002 (of the ones nominated).

Different is the key word here.

The movie had it's creative and funny moments, and it certainly made more sense than Being John Malkovich (also written by Charlie Kaufman), but I still had some problems with the story of Adaptation. Especially the ending.

                But Chris Cooper...

I'm deep into season 1 of Chicago Fireon DVD and although season 1 starts off a little dry character wise, it warms up nicely. It's basically about the firemen and women paramedics of Firehouse 51 in Chicago and all their trials and tribulations, close calls with death, and of...
